Solid VS. Poly-urethane?

I need to replace the old bushings in my car with something.


I always had my mind set on poly-urethane until I heard bigaaron (I think) mention having solid rear mounts in his supra and how the steering response was better and such.


My cars being built primarily for mild off road (gravel/dirt roads) and track.


this would be for the rear and Ill be running polys up front regardless.

I would imagine the response is going to better no matter which one you do considering the old rubber bushings. The question is, do you want a stiffer rear end, or something a tad less forgiving?

Having solid anything will lead to hideous sounds traveling through your car. Poly-Urethane will at least lessen that, plus anything you replace with Poly will last almost forever as long as you can handle squeaks. I myself love the squeak of poly suspension bushing as to me it means I never have to do it again, and its very positive control at all times.

The sound doesnt bother me.


There a major difference in price point though. I think the solids were $120 for the rears, while a full polly set is $600+. I can get a front set of poly's with solid rears for around $350-$400.


Im wondering if since the solids are well.. solid if theyll cause any frame/chasis damage when i go rally and beat the hell out of my suspension.

I come from a land down under
Never seen Poly Mounts for the subframe as stock are bonded rubber so Poly would need a major redesign to make some way of locating them vertically so they can still flex.

I'm looking at filling the gaps in my stock ones with urethane when the 9" goes in to limit the flex and look at the front outrigger bump stops that now don't do anything at all as they have nothing to contact!
