I'm about the same high, and if I usually drive in the town in 4th, the arm is very comfortably resting on the shifter (and if it still is notchy or so with the bushings - new trans oil)

My seat isn't reclined that far. I sit upright. everyone's seat setting is a little different I'm sure. The way I like my seat already has my arm fully extended going to 3 and 5. any shorter would not be comfortable. Moving the whole seat forward would put me closer to the pedals than I like. So I guess with the sogi mod, what's more comfortable is what's important I guess. It's not like the shifter drastically improved my shifting speed or any at all... Can't go any faster than your feat anyway :] (well you can, but destroying trannies isn't fun).

Maybe if I had a shorter torso and longer arms I might like the sogi mod more. :dunno:

heh. i love it.

yup, i run the SOGI short shifter. because i like hack-jobbing stuff? nope. because i like running what WORKS.

i RACE my car. i used a c's and a cut down c's for a bit, too bad it caused me to frequently miss shifts. for my use, missed shifts are NOT acceptable. the SOGI short shift mod, as ghetto as it may be, hasn't caused any missed shifts yet. the real issue here is the age/design of our transmissions....

are the c's (and others) short shifters sweet for daily driving? you bet. just be prepared to be let down when you ask it to shift quickly....

That is an issue actually, because when you go with a short throw shifter, you don't only shorten the throw, but the distance between 1/2 and 3/4 and 5/R, so it's much easier to miss a shift.

I'll keep my stock shifter for now. :) If I could get a short throw shifter that reduced throw about half of what the Jim King shofter shifter does I would probably go for it.

i have 3 shifters... a stock one, a sogi one, and a sogi mod + 1 1/2 " cut off it .... the third one sucks hard core, the stock one i feel like im going to elbow someone in the back seat, the sogi mod is perfect i have never missed a shift, never had any problems you guys seem to have, i am 6' 1" and i can reach any of the 3 shifters without any problem, so this whole reach thing is new to me...yes the sogi feels more notchy thats because you are removing the rubber dampner, IMO thats a good thing you can feel when it goes into gear better because there is no give, it is not rocket science... adjust your seat and steering wheel and all other accessories to fit you comfortably, then see how you like it

Wow, Nashman's shifter would be a definite choice, but the way things are going, I will be moving ahead with the swap sooner than later and there's no word on when he's going to have the first run ready.

Poll looks to be in favor of the SOGI mod...

Anyone know the specs on this bushing and/or where to get them? I figured I would give it a try since my Sogi mod is very notchy.

I like the look of it but it isn't as easy as the stock longer shifter.

nvm on the truck bushing - search is your friend !

don't even waste your time w/OEM bushings. go straight to the nylon offerings from marlin crawler....of course the info is on mkiiitech, but who cares?

I did mine and I love it, no complaints... if its so notchy, its probably more of an issue with your transmission and not the short shifter. Mine is fine.

I have a sogi on my 87.. it takes a lot more force to shift then my 91 w/ the stock shifter.. I like the shortness of it though.. if it were like 1"-2" lower then stock it would be perfect..
