Is the SOGI short shift mod worth breaking the stick and going through the whole process? how is it compared to a short shift kit that you would buy? and do u need to buy the special green bushing and all that or is it just as good with the stock ones? if anyone has pics of this mod they would be greatly appreciated... im a little scared to do it just cause once its done you can never go back...

The green gasket is a must! A lot of vibration otherwise, and noisy also.
i beleive you can glue them back together also, but I dout you will want to.
if you do do it, make sure you try it with the green gasket could make the whole difference.

I Personally i didnt like the feel of the shifter. I of course didnt get any of the extra suggested pieces but i thought it was pretty uncomfortable. Kept it in for a day until i ditched it and went back to my stock shifter(bought a 2nd off ebay)
The only thing it does is shorten the shifter itself. It doesnt shorten throw as other aftermarket kits would. Guess it is more a matter of preference than anything else.

i'll stand by my SOGI hack job forever. i love it. *technically* it does shorten the throw of your arm. think about it like a see saw. the outer parts move a greater distance than where the assembly is balanced. this is the same principle.

thread the stick for the stock shifterknob, itll make the sogi short shifter feel 1000000x better.
well i called the number to get the green bushing and whatnot but it says that the number cant be reached from my calling area... im from canada. does anyone know where else i can get these parts in preferably canada (if not in canada where else).

I didn't like the stock knob - it's too little for my ham fists. But I sure like the SOGI mod - I'll never go back.

i have felt both the sogi and the actual shift kit that is made for our cars (which is only one that i know of). they really dont feel any different. i cant wait to do it myself.

The SOGI short shift is a decent mod, but it's not comparable to a real short shift kit. I've run both, the SOGI shortens the throw only a few percent, while the C's short shift cuts the throw in half. You get what you pay for, but IMO if you can't afford a real short shift then the SOGI is a good way to go.
I have heard from some that the C's shifters had made them actually miss some shifts and that they liked the way the stock one was. Any insight Bishop?

i gotta say...for 300ish bucks for the REAL short shifters...the FREE SOGI mod seems like a good deal to me 
the bushing and seat grommet you need are about 15 bucks from ANY dealer and they almost always have them on hand because they arent DIRECTLY for the mk3...so they stock them...

Simple physics, if you decrease distance you must increase force. I could see someone trying to use the same force they used on the stock throw and missing a shift on the C's. It took me maybe a month to get fully accustomed to the shorter throw and increased effort, after that it's been gravy. The GReddy counterweight knob seemed to help a good bit.
so clarify for me again plz...... i hacked my shifter on the second day of ownership, and I LOVE it compared to stock. however, im getting vibration on high rpms. so i need a green bushing, and a seat or something???
I honestly like my truck shifter. I like the long throws, and I like how little force it takes to get into gear. I never miss.
i drove a new sti with the short shifter option ($495) :| and ive never felt such a nice shift. the shift was about 3 inches, and it was EASY to get into gear. the gearbox just gobbled up the next shift. i was very impressed!

EVERY real short shifter i've used caused missed shifts when drag racing. it's a combination of the design of the trans and its age. i run a SOGI short shifter and will continue to do so....because i don't miss shifts with it.
and yet again, for those considering the toyota parts for their shifter, don't waste your time. marlincrawler.com has some nylon pieces that are 100X better.
