so, what is your trick to installing your r154 to your motor?

i ran into this problem when i did the 5speed conversion. it was a HUGE pain in the ass. the bellhousing is massive. so, i'm looking for some tips to install the r154 to the motor while the motor is in the car...:1zhelp:

Loosen your engine mounts and also loosen/remove the torque dampner.

Let the engine rock down towards the rear of the car.

Install trans.

May help you, may not.

well, i don't have a torque dampener, but i loosened everything and the bellhousing still hits the floor board. i was thinking of just removing one the motor mounts?

If you go that far, Id almost tell you just to remove the engine and mate the two together...

wtf? It's not that hard to get back up there - I don't even bother with loosening the motor mounts.

The shifter isn't installed, right?

Seriously, though - pressure plate and disc on the tranny input shaft, flywheel bolted onto the crank on the engine side, put it on a roller jack, jack it up, slide it forward, up, forward, repeat until you can line up the bolts.

lol that's RIGHT. i remember now! put it on the input shaft and then i tightened the bolts through the inspection holes. thanks! now i gotta wait 'til monday to fucking work on it, 'cause it's at school =0(

Right. Don't bolt the cluitch together first, bolt the clutch to the flywheel after the transmission's bolted to the block.

ahh i remember when i made the same mistake ..... i was so used to do installing the w58 and i spent about 1hr to figure this out. Dont bolt down the PP and disk instead put them on the shaft and then install the tranny

Pff, i've done it with the clutch and pressureplate already bolted down. Just roll the transmission onto your chest, and push up with your arms and knees.

No wait, that method sucks balls....

I did ^^ a few times then realized i could use a floor jack, made life a lot easier.

Pshh you guys..

I did as MDC stated (loosened motor mounts, jack up front of motor), and I had pleanty of clearance to install my quad plate (which the PP cannot be bolted down through the inspection holes). The quad plate sticks out about 5 inches off the flywheel.. so I know you can do it

It's pretty easy even without a car lift. just get a tranny jack to lift the transmission nice and stable. Then get under it on your back and muscle man it in . Make sure you have someone to spot you in case you get fatigued.. which I aways do because I'm not diesel or anything.

at work with a lift i drop the tranny in 15-20min.

on a lift first remove the shifter
next the bolts on the fan shroud
next get everything else out of your way drive shaft etc
after that place a jack with a block of wood on the crank pulley and jack it till the fan hit the shroud (don't break anything go easy)

now your tranny is at the right angle install / remove as needed use the inspection holes to bolt/unbolt the clutch use thread lock on all bolts in there

if on ground make sure the car is high enough
