So, my stock CT26 has gone bad, what are my possibilities? Upgrade? eBay CT26?

If you've seen my other recent threads, you'll know that my stock CT26 is not going to be boosting any time soon.

So I need another turbo.. Guess I'll have to buy from US as the market here in Norway is quite limited. Should I go for a used stock CT26 in good condition? Or should I go with something else? I'm kinda short on money(and time), so the cheaper the better, but still being quality of course.

Is there any other turbo choices to go on a CT26 flange? Adapter? Or am I pretty much stuck with having another stock CT26? Trim? I'm needing the turbo to be durable, as I don't feel like needing to buy another one for a while anyway.

Are ebay CT26 turbos any good? Any one got experience/feedback with these turbos?

The engine has stock internals w/ARP studs.

Just wondering what my possibilities are..

Thanks,
Scott

Boss turbos are way out of my league I'm afraid.. at least for now.

Currently running stock fuel system on 98/99. Depends what you you put in "upgrade"? Just walbro 255 and/or other mods?

Yeah, have looked at the driftmotion rebuild.. But how do I know if my core is any good? Will a 57 trim be fine with stock internals?

I'm thinking of maybe using up to $800..

Your 1st question, I would look for obvious issues with CT26, cracks etc... but when they get turbo, they will inspect and let you know if it is usable, unless catastrophic failure, I would think that mist of the time they are usable.

2nd question - has been debated on this site, but with the hours and hours of reading and searching, I have put the following together (as you will see stock internals, minus upgrade to ARPs where I could) The biggest issue with boosting on stock internals is properly tuning (which takes the proper pieces of equipment and utilizing that equipment properly)... detonation on non-forged pistons will likely not be a happy ending...

My decisions were based on formulated opinions from my own research, my own experiences, my own budget and hopefully some common sense thrown in... :icon_bigg but like everything, not all will agree with what I have put together, so my advise is for you to keep reading and searching; formulate your opinion based on all of the same factors as I have...

1988 5spd Turbo. Motor & tranny top to bottom complete re-build, Stock internals, with Greddy 2.0mm MHG / ARP Head, Main & Rod Bolts, Upgrade OEM oil pump from DF, Arizona Performance HF Oil pump hard-pipe. Turbo 57 Trim bolt-on upgrade from DF, Synapse Engineering BOV (recirculated) to Stainless Steel intake (replaced accordion), all alum hard-pipe & inter-cooler, AEM Tru-Boost Controller, Apexi Neo controller, AEM Wide Band, Lexus AFM, Siemens 550cc injectors, Areo AFPR, 2jz Fuel Pump, added gauges (mechanical oil pressure, air/fuel, egt, oil temp, boost) Stage 3 Action clutch, 3" exhaust

Good Luck

I have a manual boost controller purchased for all of $30.00. I was running it at 13 psi. I have the Lex and 550's. At 13 psi, I think it drives great. So if you save a few bucks by getting a rebuilt stock unit, that is a good budget move.

If you are going to upgrade to a turbo that flows more air, you should add more fuel - personally, I added 550cc injectors, a walbro pump, and an adjustable FPR. Furthermore, you'll need something to tune with - a Lexus AFM, SAFC, MAFT, or something similar.

If you don't want to spend money on both turbo and fuel mods, either stick to a very small upgrade, or a stock rebuild.

Honestly, given your other threads, I'd stick with stock or upgraded stock until you learn more about the car, how it works, and get all the other mods BEFORE you upgrade to anything non-CT.

get a good turbo that you know that it can make good amount of psi, and put a boost controller to keep it down until you can get more supporting mods, like the fuel system etc.

I'll throw in a vote for a rebuilt CT from dfirtmotion. Aaron is great with customer service and does excellent work. A mildly trimmed CT-26 will run you ~650 if you dont send a core to them. You'll have the rest left to cover shipping or maybe put towards another mod. :)

I just got a Driftmotion 57 Trim CT26 and love the way it runs. I'm running stock fuel and boost for now. Its definately enough for now.

I need to get a new boost gauge and possibly a wideband before I even think about turning up the boost. Currently the stock boost gauge pegs above the 8 with my BIC DDPR and Blitz Nur Spec.
