ok so i started modding. i bought the FIPK and now i want to get a downpipe and exhaust. im lookin at the TMS downpipe and the Tanabe super hyper medalian exhaust (i really like the sound)

HERES THE PROBLEM the downpipes dont have the precat and its for offroad use only. should i just say the hell with emissions and get it anyway or should i get a precat installed?

and my car is auto. and im not really a fan of an auto with exhaust. but if it means better power then by all means fuck it :p

money is not an issue here i have around 1300 to spend on full turbo back exhaust.

my plans for next year are swapping a 7m-GTE in a mk2 im thinking about buying this shell thats for sale around here.

so what is ur guys' opinion

I'd get a coated 3" BIC DDP w/ flex section, 3" test pipe (might as well get it from BIC too) and the cat back of your choice. You should have a decent bit left over, start saving for R154!

I can think of some exahust setups that will burn right through that $1,300.00 you've got ;).

But is it needed? Nope.

I'm running a Cooleeze DP/testpipe/RS-R GTII Catback. No emissions in my state. The car get's more than enough attention with that setup if that's something you're looking for...

I dont know how cops are in your area, but buy a 3" dp and save your OEM one and just swap them when it comes time for emissions tests.

I have seen pure drag cars in the middle of town with nothing but headers and 2 foot of pipe driving around with no problems.

when i was visiting my aunt in vallejo, i saw a black MKIII with some work equips getting a ticket on the 80 by admiral callahan lane. everytime i go up there, i never want to leave. it's so nice. but if cops are as stupid over there then SoCal. Screw it! i'll stay here. lol. The tanabe is great for stealth!

im buying the BIC DP (not the DDP) and the tanabe. but i was wondering if the stock cat will fit on the new exhaust for a while till i can get a high flow cat. ive been hittin up the search button but cant find a straight answer

as long as your car is running fine you wont need a pre cat to pass most emissions (mine passed with flying colors in colorado) i did use a high flow cat though

My understanding is that the 'pre-cat' on the stock DP is for when the engine is cold... and at operating temprature, it's function is to fuck turbo seals by keeping heat in the engine bay. It is, by all means, useless.

The main cat, is what we want... use a nice downpipe with a good highflow cat on a nice exhaust system, and you'll see nice numbers. Most high-flow catalytic converters steal a couple of horsepower, but within the +/-5hp of the accuracy of the dyno... so technically, it's so little you'll never notice it.

DOOOO EEEET! The end result will probably be worth more than the mk3 anyway.

In Cali they also have a visual inspection. They will look for stock emissions equipment. If they look at his DP and see no pre-cat, he WILL fail.
