I own a bandit 1200 had it for 2 years this October. I have done many trips on it up to 6 hours by myself and 7 hours with my gf. I can't count the times i have been run off the road and almost rear ended but i still love to drive it.

I live in a college town and have to put up with a lot of unskilled and drunk idiots on the road but i still commute everyday and when it rains i drive the supra. I have a son on the way but i will still drive it for the time beeing b/c of gas. it is just whatever you want to do. You can die doing anything, but on a bike there is a higher risk. just mattters if you want to take the risk or not.

Its not us on our bikes, its other people.

Im 18, nothing to loose, really.

I dont mind riding :) If you plan on growing up, id look else-were.

i'm officially old. i've been riding street bikes for 2/3 of the time you've been alive :biglaugh:

for the OP, don't get the wrong idea and think that 600's aren't too fast. you hit a tree going 60mph on a 600 and it's the same as hitting it at 60mph with a liter bike. all it takes is a 30mph impact to crush your organs.

don't go out and get a bike unless you really want to get a bike. if you're unsure about if you really want one, then get in a bit of a scare, then don't want to ride anymore, you're stuck with a bike you don't want and a car you don't have. if you do get a street bike, plan on wrecking, even if you ride it safely (although it is impossible to ride a streetbike safely).

i guess the main thing is, just don't go out and get a bike on a whim idea, if you don't know about, or want to know about bikes, you may end up getting you or someone else hurt

A guy that plays golf at the same country club I do was killed this past saturday while riding his bike. A man in a truck hit him and killed him. I don't know the full details yet, but him dieing at the scene of the accident was the result. I know you can't live your life in fear, but damn, that's just insane to be out riding, and enjoying the beautiful weather and the fifty miles to a gallon and then never see your little girls again.

This is your head speaking..............."I'm not falling for this shit, I'm not that stupid". A bike has no roof in the rain, no heater when it's cold, no passenger seat for the lady, and comes with a danger factor that should help you make your mind up on it's own.

Actually there is a back seat... I take my girlfriend all the time. :icon_razz

As a bike rider(I have a yamaha R1 as daily driver) there are a few things you should consider: where you are riding(ie how mad the locals are), your apetite for juice(adrenaline) and whether you have a family etc. In my mind I can't do without the bike - its faster thru traffic, you can play around and of course there is risk - I nearly get knocked off the thing about 2-3 times every day... but thats the fun of it. Last week I had the thing completely sideways whilst going 70 kmh in horrendous rain - still don't quite know how I got out of that one, but enjoyed every bit of it.... do what makes you feel alive I say...

very true!

Man this guy is on a roll, Nicely said. I rode nice for about 6 months and now I can drive normally (Ps. I'm on back road's in the country where I can only hurt myself, I never ride like an idiot in traffic and such!)

Do your research! Your also right no reason for more than 600cc, maybe 750, But 1000cc is crazy my friend inless your a bigger guy. I'm 6"0 145pounds and man 600cc is plenty.

^ I'm 5'9" 220lbs and 600 is too much for me.

90 in 2nd gear... why on earth does it need to do that? lol

I've been riding since I was 16... 7 years later I'm still alive. I'm more worried about someone killing me for the $7 cash in my wallet than I am about being killed on my motorcycle. Drive like everyone is TRYING to kill you, and you will be just fine.
