Ok so as some of you know im only 17years of age,
Bought my supra about a year ago and its been a passion for
me ever since, its what gets my mind off things and just makes
me happy in general, therefore its what i want to do for the rest
of my life, money isnt that important to me, for id rather be happy
and not make alot of money than make alot of money and not
be happy if that makes sense....?

Then a couple times ive went onto craigslist, typed in mechanic
services and there are pages and pages of jobless mechanics
looking for jobs, and i mean some of these guys have top of the
line degrees, so that right there also sits in the back of my mind
alllll the time, is it really worth it to take that chance and pay
out the ass for school then come to find out theres no jobs available?

Ive been looking into some automotive schools around the ohio
area and ive come to notice theres no way ill ever be able to pay
for this stuff, Not to mention i have so much to learn, i dropped out
of highschool because of my parents and now its kinda too late, and if
i go back to highschool now i wont graduate till im 21.... Alll my credits are
gone, This past summer i was taking my GED classes, and ill take my ged
test here before winter so that will be out of the way...

I work at taco bell and make about $200-300 every
two weeks, my parents are completely out of my life and my grandparents
dont have much money left...

I dont know what to do?
I cant work at taco bell for the rest of my life...

This is where you're wrong, young man.
a) I see you blaming others, and maybe you're right to blame them. But it's your life, and you can mess it up or set yourself up really well.

b) It's NEVER too late to go back to school. You're only 17, for crying out loud. I graduated from college in my late 20's, along a lady who was 71 years old (at the time). And people in their 80's have graduated, too. So 17 years old is nothing. Do something now that will benefit you for life.

Exactly. All this is a very long way to say do whatever it takes to finish high school. Look around and see what successful people have done to achieve such success. Unless they've won the lottery, most have worked for their success. You're going to have to work for yours, too. GL.

Since 4th grade i havent completed 1 school year at 1 school....
I goto this school and there on x level of education and then i goto another
school and there on x level of education, so i was constantly missing out
on huge aspects, As of now i cant do multliplication, such as 32x19 without a
calculator, i cant do division such as 9/130 without a calculator...
Then my girlfriend for 2years is now in collage and she comes home with these
math problems and im not kidding i just want to give up, ive got so much to
learn in so little time...

Ill be 18 in 5-6monthes and after that my grandma is kicking me out...
My girl doesnt work enough to help me pay for a place, so ill have to find
a room mate, then after doing so ill have even less money to try and pay for
school....

Well, from what I read, your parents did fail to provide the stability needed to do well in school. So yeah, they're to blame. So how are you going to fix the damage, the wasted time? I suggest you check with the local high school, or online, on how you go about obtaining your GED. Your life is just beginning, so get to it. The GED program will bring you up to speed faster than you think. Think of what you need to do so you can get your GED.

So read again what you just quoted, and get started. I don't know, but you might want to consider selling your toys (Supra included, sad to say), if that's what it'll take to get you in school, in case you have to reduce your working hours.

I do commend you for analizing the situation and realizing that many mechanics are out of work. That, and the fact that you're asking for advice, tells me you're smart. So weight your options very carefully, and act sooner, rather than later. Time's awasting, man.

Dont give up. I dropped out of high school when i was 16. I started a gardening route while working at Verizon. Then took the CHSPE California High School Proficiency Exam. I never went back to school, and now make a lot more money then my sister who is an Ultra sound tech and my old district manager at Verizon. Oh and i only work one day of the week. The way i see it dropping out of high school was one the smartest things ive done.

So just know that there is hope. Save your money and make good investments. Work a damn night job if you have to, your young. Save & Invest. Your future will look bright soon. Dont worry budddy.

With such a low income, Obama should hook you up with grants and the like...

Just don't be a f*cktard like my ex-sis-in-law and drop out of FREE college courtesy of taxpayer money...

A lot will change before you actually graduate... The job market could get worse or you could suddenly be worth $100k/yr...

become a cop (they get paid pretty well around here as do normal schoolteachers)

i honestly wish i could be in your shoes because i wasted a lot of time between now and 17.. simply get into college and find a career. its pretty easy to be a cop good benefits but again thats just one choice out of a lot. and it really is up to you on how hard you want to work. there are always loans available for school too. i know its not easy with parents that dont support you but usually schools offer decent loans for someone in your position evn if the money isnt free you can always repay it later.have some stability even if you have to pay them back.

Cash for Clunkers is going to put alot more Wrenches out of work... You dont need to go to school to learn to work on cars.. But you need to learn to atleast fix what you drive..

School is a must.. Ive regreted droping out...most do..

If the supra is sound and runs good.. Keep and drive it.. dont beat it.. You cant aford to fix.. and atleas it has fold down seats so you can sleep in. god forbid..

You cant sell it for enought to get a decent car... why i say keep if shes sound..

17 is young.. But to be happy.. it takes SOME money... and your nitch... gota find your nitch.. what makes you happy that you can make money doing..More to cars then just fixing as in working in a garage .. Designing... upgrading...moble mechanics

What eles do you like to do ?
and fact you are 17.. you can not know all the things in life that can make you happy.. so keep searching.. but def try to get in a school and learn what you are interested in..

Yea ive always wanted to join the army, just didnt want to leave....
Thats the only thing that has kept me looking another way, I mean i understand to gain you gotta give up some things, but yea whenever i get a chance im gonna goto my local recruiter and talk to them about it, cause from everyone says, nothing will ever help you out better in life then the army will.

&& About the whole law enforcement career suggested, ive also kinda looked into that, sounds pretty interesting because i know they do get benifits other than just because there a cop, and just maybe if i did, id be speeding all the time so when i got into my supra after the job i wouldnt really wanna speed.
Ahh nevermind thats a lie =], But just recently ive kinda stopped speeding and never going 5mph over. Ive come to realize, half the time the only thing your doing is getting to the next red light before the other cars, so its kinda pointless lol.

@ HommerSimpson:
If i went to school for mechanics i wouldnt be going for the knowladge of working on a car, but only for them to teach me how to think, i mean of course they will teach me stuff, but in an overhead aspect they are only there to help teach you how to think, or atleast thats how i look at it.

But i really appreciate you guys putting in your inputs, you've given me some inspiration and motivation, it means alot it really does, i know alot of you have never or hardly see me around but i dont post much, i just read like crazy lol. i spend a good 2-3hours a day reading in the 7m tech section.

Thanks guys =]

If your only making 100-150 a week you need to pick up more hours bro. This may mean a second or third job. Either get your GED or go back to high school. Then Go to college, even if uncle sam wont pay for it. Despite the economy, as long as you try hard in school, you can easily get a college loan. Most college loans dont require any payments until you graduate (on schedule).

The Service seems like the best bet for you right now. Hell, i've come close to thinkin about it a while ago because I didnt know what the hell I was gonna do. I even almost gave up on high school. Took me til 19. To this day I dont even know how I brought it back but i'm glad I did because a high school diploma or GED pretty much makes your working life go round. So good luck and I hope you find your way.

For sure graduate high school or get a ged, that should be your main focus as of now. Also, you're going to turn 18 pretty soon and I agree with CF, in your situation if you join the army, it will benifit you the most as a mechanic and life period. You'll gain knowledge in many things and in the future you can attend any college you'd like, make more money and continue the passion you have for your supra and cars in general. Best of all you'll learn to be on your own as an adult, as you mentioned you were gunna get kick it out. Personally, I am goin to attend a community college and persue the auto tech. program. Im aware that theres a possibility I wont get a job, but im doing it anyways because I want the knowledge really than anything because cars is my passion. Good luck with everything really and oh yea... :thefinger economy

Ok, well yesterday i went and talked to the local army recruiter....
He had told me that the army is currently not accepting GED holders,
and that you must have atleast 15 collage credits....

Thats great news....

I went back to get my provincial diploma when I was almost 40. (Canada)Community college was hard, but fun. Go to one of your local community colleges and find out the prerequisites for obtaining the required credits for army service. Get student loans and go for it. In a year or 2 you can get into the army and you'll be set. Use the student loans wisely and maybe keep working part time for pocket money. gl! It just takes hard work and dedication. I did math homework for 3 hours a night to catch up...(cuz I was a fuktard in high school and didn't apply myself). You sound like a bright young man, you can do it!

I'm about to graduate college and I can't remember anything mathematical in any of my math/physics/biology courses. I wouldn't sweat it about the math stuff..that's what calculators are for ;)

get your GED first of all then look into a local community college a lot of them have some really good 2 year programs which can get you a job making near 40k a year....honestly though i would get the GED then bang out the 15 credits and go in the military, im actually planning on getting back in soon.
