but i couldn't find anything on this.. and i am not sure which it is but..
i am looking at buying a car from a guy, but it isn't runing.
he said it spun a bearing due to low oil pressure...

i am just curious about how much work i would need to put into it, if anyone would even have an idea which bearing was even spun...

Tip: A spun bearing doesn't stop your engine from running. It just makes it loud. Eventually it might snap a rod and poke big holes in the block, but then you don't have a spun bearing, you have a snapped rod and big holes in your block.

You can run the motor pulling an injector clip at a time and replacing it until the noise lessens, this will isolate the dying cylinder but this information is redundant as the motor needs to be pulled to be repaired anyway and you'd soon see which bearing is damaged.

Didn't you have another thread asking how much an engine rebuild would be?

I'm pretty sure it ended with you saying "fuck that" in regards to the price.

Well, a complete rebuild will get you a good, solid engine that you know is ready for some serious upgrades, but is, as you will surmise, expensive.

A JDM engine with an overhaul (new gaskets, including head gasket) is signifigantly cheaper, but there is an element of risk that it may also have a spun bearing. You just don't know. You can be fairly sure though that any JDM 7M engine has been sitting in storage for quite some time. For this reason, I'd heavily recommend at least putting new seals throughout.

It's possible that you can just replace the damaged bearings, reassemble the engine, and drive it. I'd definitely want to know why it had low oil pressure though. No sense in putting it back together just to have the problem repeat itself.

theres two problems with that engine though.... one is the full rebuild you'd have to do. and second is figure out WHY there was low oil pressure... it was probably the oil pump, and those arent cheap...

I really hope you are being sarcastic^...

His profile says he's 45. If I was 2 years younger, he'd be exactly 3 times older than me... so no, no sarcasm there.
