I come from a land down under
I'm using a Cometic but I can't see any reason why it won't work on a HKS.

As for whether to retorque or not conventional wisdom says no but when I did my new motor I had a few studs in the middle of the head that were 5>10 ft/lbs looser than the rest so for me it's well worth the peace of mind to spend an hour or so doing this than to deal with the results of a BHG.

I guess it's up to the individual if they want to roll the dice....

how did you know your head lifted?
Just by the loose studs?

any other way to come over this?

maybe L-19 bolts?

Ive got new arp headbolts,Should i pre stretch them by slightly over torquing them on my spare/old block with old head and using a old mhg? Ive read the mains and rods (studs/bolts) need some over torque so they stretch and then when your ready to assemble they can be torqued up to the proper values.

yeah, i'm at about 1400 miles since i put my motor back in with the ARP's. when i put my oil cooler/t-stat/relocation kit in, i'm going to change the spark plugs, as well as re-torque the head studs. :) cant ever be too safe!

So, if I want to be as safe as possible... should I retorque every 100 miles? I REALLY can't have another BHG, because then that would probably mean it would be for sale on here...

Also, what is heat cycling?? It has been just over 100 miles since the hg replacement...

no, you should only have to re-torque if you're using new hardware, and AFTER it's been heat cycled. heat cycling is just when the motor is heated up to operating temp, then cools down. (ie, starting the car, driving around, letting the car cool off) it happens every time you use the car.

after you've re-torqued the first time, (after it's been cycled) you wont need to do it again.
