On my way to James Coney Island for some Chili Dogs with my dad, my friend and I. I pull into the parking lot, park, turn car off and lock the steering wheel. Just as i do that i hear a creak, i unlock the wheel and turn the other way and it creaks again. My dad gets out and pops the hood and says turn the wheel again. Just as i do that the steering wheel starts doing full 360' rotations. The steering shaft on the lower end the part that connects to the steering rack came loose, somehow. This isnt the first time ive had a problem like this. First time it fell out of the steering column, my dad and i reinserted it and retightend the bolt and torque to spec. Now the bottom end gave way. So we then spent the rest of our 3 hours, eating a hot dog while wait for a tow truck. Thank god for AAA, first tow truck pulls up with a flat bed, we exhange a few words, and he says he cant tow my car because the wheels arent straight, and that he was going to get a Tow Dolly. The manager pulls up and says we need to sign a waiver if the tow truck driver tows my car from the front since its RWD. The other guy shows up with a dolly and proceeds to lift the front of my car. I only live 3 miles from JCI so it wasnt that far of a tow. However problems ensue and he says my front bumper is hitting his ends of the lift. So he says hes going to go back to dispatch and get a flatbed. Hour and half later he comes back with a flatbed and then they spend another hour trying to get it on the flatbed. They finally figured out itd be a good idea to use go-jacks (or whatever you call them) though the didnt work since my car is to heavy. But the managed to get it close enough and my car finally made it onto the bed.

Im just thankful to god or whoever is looking out for me this didnt happen on the freeway as i was supposed to drive my dad to the northwest side of town, and i wouldve taken the FWY and it wouldnt have ended good had it seperated there.

So tommorow me and my dad are going to fix this hopefully once and for all.

Yeah so enjoy my shitty friday. Kinda ironic my bday is on Monday.

is yours one of those rare two tone turbo models? I once had an 88 parts car that looks extactly like that one, sure enough it was turbo with super monitor.

God, it's a good thing your steering didn't come apart while you were driving and eating your Hot dog, you would have made a mess, wasted a Chilli dog and crashed your Hot rod just think, look at it like this, at least you'll get a part for your birthday..:kickinthenuts:.

Sucks to hear man. Believe me, my steering is fucked up too. I have a complete replacement though. Damn thing moves 6 inches side to side, few inches up and down. It's ridiculous.

I was gonna check and fix, but it's easier to replace it. Hope you get it fixed too. You should have checked into it the first time. Have to be sure with them older cars.
