The short:
You want days to pass quickly, and still come out with decent guaranteed money? Go into a trade.

The long:
My first job was at a furniture store. I was happy that I could make money in high school, but it was lame, dusting and shit like that. Quit that.
By the time I graduated, I was sick of wasting time in school, straight to work for me.
Ever heard of Excel? I pitched that for a couple of months right outta high school. "Pyramid schemes" FTL, but I still get small commision checks here and there ($15-40). It was fun at first but the problem was that it got too big too fast and ran outta clients.
So I moved on to plumbing (not 'houses by the hundred') and yes its challenging, but there is pride to being able to see your finished work, and not having to fib a little for a 'bite'.
What never gets old is that people first see me as the villain walking up to their door, and the hero that saved the day when I leave. Sometimes I get great tips like a Jackson or food (best so far was frozen vacuum sealed veal sausage and steaks).
The negatives are you have to learn to get dirtier than car work, deal with irritating people, and the usual progress-related stress.
I'm having a hard time getting bored, as there are options on options to perform work, and always something to do.
I still have the itch to try new things, but I don't know if I'll move on.

Dave, I bet you're just like me. You get tired of good looking married women hitting on you when you come to work on their house. Then you find out that their isn't anything wrong, they just want you to service them. I mean it all pays the same, but every now and then I really want to fix something.

Sorry for the OT CK, but maybe you'd want to be a Service Man..........:naughty:

Of course all of the above never happened. I think I saw it on a movie somewhere........;)

I've often thought about going into car sales, because usually during the winter my buisiness slows way down, but since you're in it and wanting to quit, it must not be as good a gig as I was thinking.

I am a elctrical or computer tech i have done tons of jobs along these lines
My story is a didnt finish college even though i have like 80+ units
So all i will ever have is a JOB not a CAREER.
careers are once in a lifetime deal for people like me but with a college degree a bad job is just a good career that havent happined yet.

I love my job....finally.

My other jobs were:
Bike shop mechanic ($3.25 hr LOL)
Security guard (Boring)
Automation and Control company grunt (only worked 2 weeks, it sucked)
Car audio/video lead installer (burned out after 4 yrs)
Electronics store sales and manager ($40k yr, but bored as hell and no room to grow)
Car audio/video manager (more bs then I could take for $42k yr, even with the company car. Salary sucks when there's overtime every day.)

Why 25+?

I'm most certain people start working at a much younger age then that ;)....not to mention the demand for young people fresh out of school that get into a career right off the bat.

i'm bad, i'm nationwide
love my career

pay is good, the scenery changes, and i get to drive a big shiny truck and listen to turbo whine all day.

i hate my current job though, i thought i would like being a local driver, but i'm putting in way more hours for the same money, but hey,i get to go home every night, right?

i'd already be out the door, but the benefits package is kick ass, i won't find anything even close in a regular trucking company(work for a petroleum co now), and my 5 yr old loves being tucked in at night by daddy.

if this medical thing works out ok for me, i'll prolly go back on the road. if it dosen't i was once in car sales, not opposed to going back, if need be, pay was very good, and i got off on the control you exert when selling cars.(my favorite "kills" were the overeducated, consumer-digest waving, kbb quoting enlightened people who thought they were in charge)

Thought you might like a younger persons perspective. I'm 19 and in University for Mechanical(Automotive) Engineering. I have no free time, no money and more stress than should ever be possible. In three more years I will be 70k in debt with no guarantee of a job right out of school. I had to make this decision when I was about 16 so I could take the proper prerequisites. Talk about pressure.

My father wanted to give me his sucessful business and was opposed to the University route. I could not see myself living in the small town I grew up in. However, when my father sees how much money it costs for me to be in school...he never gets off my back.

I truly hope that in the end this big degree will pay off with interesting work and good money down the road. There should be many oppertunities for advancement because I am taking a 5th year business and management program. This makes me tired just thinking about it:3d_frown:

Good luck

I wasn't happy with my "direction" in life, so I changed it. I can't stand working for any one else.

Although, sometimes I see some of my peers from HS and they have a big fancy car this, big fancy house that, 2 or three kids this....

And I wonder if I have missed the boat?

depends. do you like going to work everyday?

all your friends might have fun toys but maybe some of them don't really enjoy being at their job. Money is cool, but if you don't like what you do and hate going to work how much money would be worth it?

My dad always told me 'find something you love doing that can support you and your family and you'll never have to work another day in your life.' or something to that effect.

Well like a few others that have posted here, I too am under 25, 22 to be exact. Personally I am in the Air Force right now, and am not happy at all. My enlistment is up in the summer and I plan on going to school when I get out. But like a few others have also said, money isnt everything. You gotta sit down and go through your priorities and do what you think will make you happy and allow you to pay your bills and feed your family. No sense in going into a certain career only to wake up when your 45 or 50 and be like "WTF?! I've wasted all these goddamn years!..." Because when your unhappy it's also likely that your family life, social life and marriage will suffer as well.

hmm..... i guess im happy most the time. but ive been doing the same type of stuff since i was 8 or so. just fixing things and building things.

im a motorcycle mechanic, went to college to be a mechanical engineer. had my own custom paintball company (kinda still do, just only build for high paying customers) work for a honda/toyota dealership jsut got another raise. getting paid to be certified in honda cars and bikes and toyota vehicles.

one thing is im the one that does most the big crap at work, im the only one who can weld, i do all engine rebuilding and trans work, all the ac work, motorcycle work, i even have to work on stupid camp trailers and the elevator and heating system in the building......

Only 22, but I'm not happy.

2 years of school to do something I find absolutely boring as hell 99% of the time. I barely try and make a's/b's, thats the sad thing. 5 more months (ish) until I graduate and can finally get out of this clinical BS and atleast get paid to do the exact same thing I'm doing now (radiologic Tech... X-rays, not the radio).

Can't do what I always wanted to do, so I don't have much of a choice. It pays good, but I would seriously do what I wanted to do for $5/hr (maybe less) if I was able to. Life can be such a bitch sometimes.
