whats the advantage of removing the egr?
Those EGR blockoff plates are bogus. The only true advantage of removing the EGR system is to alleviate the heat from around the back of the number 6 cylinder, by putting the plate on the head side you're trapping in the heat. The correct way to do the mod is to remove the head, permanently remove the cooler plate on the back of the head and block the port with a pipe plug. You will need a blockoff plate for the intake manifold however, but the pass through on the intake side of the head can now be left opened.

you dont need to take the head off to do that and the reason i am doing it is to clean the eng up. I have already done this to a few supras now and you are making it sound more difficult than it is. So if you want the clutter of all the crap on your eng go ahead im taking mine off as well as all my stupid hard fuel lines, stock regulator and J tube....Why because it is a pain in the ass IMAO to work around later and it cleans the intake side up. Also i will be removing and cappin off all vacum lines except the FPR, BOV, boost gauge, and the master cylinder vacuum line.(yes i will be removing the powersteering idle up crap and both valves under the manifold. why again looks cleaner easy to do and makes life simpler down the road. But every one has there own opinion.

If you are removing the EGR purely for aesthetics is one thing, help yourself. The question was asked what the advantage was of removing the system. From a mechanical standpoint it's to remove the heat from around the cylinder, and unfortunately you will need to have the head off (or at least the engine out of the car) to remove the cooler plate and plug the port. That cylinder runs quite a bit hotter because of this system and also the water piping. I also insolated and wrapped that piping to try and remove that heat source. Once again, by blocking the system off with those plates you are just trapping the heat around the cylinder, not really a good idea.

Here's the rub - bolting a plate back there doesn't let you avoid the heat buildup from the EGR system.

Rajunz is talking about plugging the hole completely, so there is no extra heat added to the rear of the engine. Damn fine idea actually, if you can run without the EGR for smog testing in your area.

i dont understand how using a plate wouldnt do the same thing on the back since it is not letting the exaust out of the hole anymore

Hmm... been awhile since I looked at mine, but I don't think the hole is flush with the back of the head. If not, it would still allow exhaust around the rear of the head... I can check when I get home, though.

You might be right! :)
