Hey guys...found this shop in Hollywood CA.

http://www.racetep.com/INDEXX.html

Got quite an impressive build-up list for the 7M-GTE.

Any of you guys use this shop? Other than pricing, what did you think of them...did they live up to their build claims?

I know you can save a few $$$ DIY, but looks like they are using quality parts in their build. Any comments are appreciated.

I checked them out a while ago and got a quote as well.
The seem to do good machine worrk and have parts but they dont install or tune. SO if youre just looking for parts and machine work, and dropping it all off at their shop for however long, I say do it.

i dunno, if you're going to pay someone to work on a project for your car, i feel it's best to let them champion the whole thing from start to finish... that way if there's someone to blame, it's them :) i don't let anyone touch my car or my car parts if they don't set out to do the entire thing properly.

if you're just going to use them as a machine shop that's different but if you're going to have someone pull/install the engine and tune the car for you, then make sure and have them build the engine and take on the entire project too. Like Garage Works in lancaster, CA or Driftmotion in pomona, CA. I personally get my car worked on at Garage Works, and they're fantastic, owner there has had a ton of supras and knows the mk3 inside and out, and so have the other mechanics there.

Yeah...I'm with ya. I was looking at this for a friend of mine...we can pull/install the motor NP. It's the engine build we were looking at. Doesn't have the time or place to put it together. Anyone used these guys to build a motor?

I made the HUGE mistake of doing alot of "R&D", trying to shop around for a 1jz install. I ended up going to a shop by the 710 and 5 freeway which will remain nameless. "hint"

They ended up putting an engine set into my pristine 91 supra (NOT A FULL CLIP), a buchered wiring harness, and all kinds of miss-matched parts. They spent 1.5 weeks putting the engine in and then another 2.5 weeks trying to figure out the wiring, which they could not do. On top of that they parked my car in the alley for many days, it got a parking ticket, I found a reciept to an axle shop so they were driving my car around, and also the targa top was loose. Something I have never taken off.

Luckily, Driftmotion was willing to finish up the job so I had my car flatbedded to them and get everything working, and in only 2 working days!!! They found tons and tons of installation mistakes and Aaron and Jose fixed them all and saved me car. I can't recommend those guys enough.

Stick with a shop that knows their stuff, and only does Supras.

Will Driftmotion build a performance 7M-GTE? Looked at their website and saw a bunch of JDM motors.

Not getting a warm fuzzy on TEP...any other comments on them?

Thanks Guys!

yes driftmotion will do an excellent job building a high end motor....... garage works will as well, but i think if i had my preference I'd be leaning more towards driftmotion because garage works has built a lot of 7M's back in the day but lately all they seem to do is 1JZ and 2JZ, but I know the guys at driftmotion build 7M's all the time. I was thinking of letting them prep and assemble my built engine in the future, if they weren't so far away from me though.

One drive there and one drive back would be well worth it, IMO. My friend with a 93TT is having his car taken out of state for his engine and transmission build up and plans to drive back when it's done for the break in period.

If I was doing some serious work and money spending again, I'd still have my car in jose's shop even if I was still living in northern california.

I got a water injection system from TEP.
They seem to have a lot of 7M stuff. I think most of their work is geared to racing and not really for street, unless you're a street racer. I don't know about their work. They seem to cater to 7M Supras.
