100lbs worked well for me in the Mk2. Mk3 I've never needed the extra weight, they're heavy enough. :p

I drive my MK3 in the snow every day and no problems this winter. Last year I hit a telephone pole because I didn't have snow tires on it, but this year I do and it makes a HUGE difference. Also put a 70 lb sand bag in the back. Sure I still slid a few times but I was probably going too fast anyway.

People still tailgate me and cut me off though, which pisses me off. :icon_mad:

umm.. just a note.. if you have your Supra properly insured but have sunk money into it, if its worth more than 2500.00 I would get it appraised and make sure my Supra was covered for that amount plus 1500.00 in parts on top. Simply because people tend to look at Supras and if you know about driving.. you tend to drive where you look.. lol. As for me.. I have the luxury of putting my Supra to bed and pulling out the 3/4 ton for winter. : )

I wish my ABS worked :( i have already fixed 100 little things on the car but i still can't find where to install the ABS sensor on the transmission. Other than that i've got a few days driving in the supra with snow under my belt now and i've adjusted well. I'm not worried about the car rusting as it's been completely underbody coated and my mom runs a car wash so i can clean her when ever i want :) i lost a bit of weight in the back cause i've dropped to a single 12 to retain some storage space... and my ear drums. Other than the occasional sliding ( mostly on purpose) i'm doing well on it now but i can't wait for spring to come, then i can really get this car whipped into shape. I don't know if there's a group for supra owners in western Ny but i'm willing to start one

In regards to undercoat... you may want to consider something. Undercoat has a tendancy to perforate. If you dont brush it down (wirebrush) and redo it from time to time, it can actually be more harmful to have it in some cases as the water/dirt can get into holes and get held there while it eats through the metal. I dont care what you do to the car... winter is bad for the brackets and quarters and wheelwell areas. Its less work to go out and work somewhere for 2 days and take 400.00 and throw it into a Yugo then try to keep the moisture/salt/sand/dirt/etc.. off of your baby. I just pick up an 800.00 vehicle and use it for 2-3 years for winter (I realise not everyone has the parking area/resources to do this, but in the end your further ahead). The car has its prone areas and one of them that is ignored is the gas tank where the filler tube goes into the tank. It has a plastic guard that Toyota in its infinite wisdom put there without thinking about space to let dirt/water flow out once it gets in... It isnt something you can get at easily to clean unless you remove the bumper and/or plastic covers in the passenger side wheel well.. but.. of course.. thats just me being terribly fussy. : )

My wheel wells were nicely undercoated until I pressed on them to see what the metal felt like and put my finger through the wheel well. The passenger side felt perfectly fine.. and then I removed the undercoat to find 4 - 1/2" holes in it. Undercoat does NOT = rust proofing.

Buy a beater. You'll drive much better not worrying about ruining a car you like. If you drive in the snow eventually someone WILL run into you, or run into your car while it's parked.

Buy a car for less than $500 that's fugly but passes inspection and run it for as long as it will run before needing a repair that would cost more than the car is worth. You can also buy something for $200 that doesn't run or needs work... but watch yourself there. You can really get screwed if parts aren't available dirt cheap. As a bonus, snow tires are cheap for most beater cars cause they usually have 14" wheels. I paid like $190 for a whole set of tires for mine.

I know what you mean about the filler tube.... my car only had rust in the spare tire well and on the filler neck. I saved the filler neck with a thick coat of epoxy paint and an hour with a wire brush.
