That sucks. I had it off about 2 to 3 months ago because my exhaust manifold was cracked. What is the best bang for the buck. Should I have mine rebuilt or trade it in on a rebuilt one. I looked at the boss jr on suprasport but really dont wont to fork the money out. I was looking for about half that price. I know someone out there can point me in the right direction.

driftmotion sells the 57 trim for like 500+ with core. Iirc you can get the stock one rebuilt for a couple hundred bucks but it is well worth it to up grade to a 57. Anything over 57 tho reliability goes out the window. My 57 trim has about 45k on it with zero shaft play at 7-8psi.

Ok Thanks. I looked at that one too. That is probably the route I will take. I read about the trims and reliabiltiy of each. What I cant understand is why would it smoke on decel. only. It looks like it would smoke while I was accel. too. Call me crazy.

Has anyone purchased anything from driftmotion. Is this a good place to do business with. I was just wondering what kind of reviews they had.

Driftmotion is great, Aaron is wonderful to deal with! So far, Ace at Zankoku and Aaron at Driftmotion are my two favorites.

Smoking on decel would be due to vacuum messing with the seals, IIRC.

please explain, vacuum to the turbo?

also in a previous post of mine regarding testing valve guide seals. i noted to crack the throttle 2-3 times. from your reply we had a misunderstanding. what i meant was.... slightly open the throttle, just enough to get it to 3-4k rpm and immediately let the throttle slam shut (easiest from under the hood by hand).

with that said, it does sound like you have a turbo seal problem just trying to clarify our mix-up

I don't know WTF I was thinking. I was in a rush at work and posted that without thinking it through. My fault. lol

I'm not sure how the turbo seals would only be smoking on decel, I just know that's the usual culprit. Unless your valve seals are obviously bad. I was probably thinking that the vacuum messes with the valve seals and got that confused with the turbo seal. Correct me if I am wrong, I always enjoy learning new things, and not being retarded. :icon_bigg

OR - Now that I think about it, vacuum on the compressor side could pull oil out from around the seal and cause it to smoke... or maybe I'm just not on the right track with my thinking... I'm not perfect. lol

No problem. I am just learning myself. I don't feel comfortable spending 500+ on a rebuilt turbo and it still doesn't fix my problem. It is embarrassing to pull up beside someone and they say hey your car smokes. So help me so I can represent. Hopefully I can solve my problem without having to spend big bux.

Your turbo has shaft play so it needs a rebuild. if you keep waiting you will start getting the turbo death whine or worse.

Valve stem seals tend to smoke only on first start up until they get warm. If they are real bad they will smoke all the time.

I used to loose a qt from driving my car cold because of valve stem seals, But once the engine got warm i was fine.

Yeah. I pulled the intake hose apart and there was oil inside. I keep thinking it might be from the pcv system but I pulled the hose from the according hose and it was dry. So I have to go with the turbo. I will upgrade to the 57 trim because of its reliability.
