So i have been driving my car for a little while now. Things seem to be ok for the most part. Except the fact that when ever and not always when i decelerate while in gear I will get a nice big puff or cloud or blue out of the exhaust but usually only when i come to a halt. It is really odd. It does not always happen. but happens most when i lets the car just cruise down in gear or use it as a air brake.

Any ideas as to why it will only smoke in this situation. I am not realizing something here

BTW it smokes allot less now, but it still does happen. It also does happen, not very often when i accelerate which i would think thats from the turbos, maybe?

Smoke on decel = bad thrust bearing on turbo = one of the two turbos or both have excess front to back shaft play causing the oil seal to leak = death will come in the near future from a turbine blade hitting the housing or the excess heat from the oil burning on the ceramic

I would suggest to not decel hard in gear anymore, you'll buy some time.

Nope. Drive it like you stole it!

My twins smoked a tad on decel, and they lasted 6+ months @ 18psi daily driven. I took them off to single upgrade, they had some play, but sold em, and the new owner still runs em a year later.

Heck my new precision GT40-88 smokes on decel, dang thrust bearing went bad on this one too. You can take the compressor blade with the air filter off and move it back and forth 1/4in. Factory defect and it is covered by warrenty.

I'm probably among few 1J owners with good turbos as mine have not shown these symptons yet. But I know it is coming...

If you have the $$ I agreed with Ric on doing a single turbo upgrade. But if not, you can try the Aussie CT12a replacement turbos with steel wheels. Been hearing good things about it from other 1J owners that have purchased it.

Frankly, I have no clue on how $$ a single turbo upgrade but if it's within my reach and time to replace the twins yeah I would go for it.

Just doing the IC pipes now then I will shortly have some dyno numbers with the ct26 57trim. Isn't putting steel wheels in ct12a's defeat the purpose of quick spool becuase even though you can run more boost it is the super light weight ceramic wheels that make it spool so fast. Same reason Nissan ran ceramic wheels in the rb motors is for the quick spool.
