Hello all
I'm a new member to this forum and i like it already. looks way more active than the others i belong to. anyway here is my question. I have an 88 7mgte. I just did the following upgrades: 3"elbow,downpipe and full exhaust (all stainless of course) 2 1/2" intercooler hard pipes, stainless steel turbo inlet, tokico blues all around (removed tems system) and i just switched out my turbo for the jdm one that came with my motor. Now, since i have changed the turbo, when i start the engine, everything is fine, but if i let it get up to temp, then rev the engine, there is some smoke coming from around the turbo. It looks like its coming from underneath somewhere. I ordered new oil gaskets for the turbo return line and upon reading another thread, i have also learned that all the penetrating oil i used to get the old turbo off may just be burning off the motor. (except that i only see it when i rev the engine) is there anything else i should check??? this has been a project car for the last year and i havent even got to drive it yet. Now that i can actually insure it and drive it, the smoke starts and im not risking blowin nuttin :nono: sorry for the long post, just wanna be specific

Sounds like blown turbo. More than likely more knowledgable folks will chime in.

the turbo has sat for a year or so, but "looks" wise, its in great shape, turbines are great, no chipping or anything. if the turbo was blown, wouldnt it smoke out the exhaust??? this smoke is just coming from underneath the turbo somewhere. (close to the oil return line) maybe its my gasket?? i know that the oil dipstick tube has a good seal in the block. I dont have any oil in my intercooler, intake or intercooler pipes, and no blue smoke from the exhaust. like i said, i figured it was penetrating oil burning off but when i rev it up, the amount of smoke increases. hmmmmmmmmmmm

Could be the fan moving air and it appears to start smoking more. Make sure the oil lines aren't leaking and run it to burn off any oil on it from the swap. If it's still smoking after a drive, your prolly leaking somewhere.
