i just got my motor going its been sitting for the past 8 months, only prob is that when i rev a puff of black smoke will come out from around where the egr is under the intake mani. i checked all the bolts though and the egr is on there tight, any ideas?

It is, the the port still has exhaust in it. Either that, or the egr cooler is leaking. That means:

there was a lose vacuum line under there that went to the vsv for the egr, plugged it back and no more smoke. i'm assuming that my egr does have a crack or hole but since the vsv is plugged in its letting all that smoke go into my intake and not out the hole? before i take this thing apart would there be any way that those puffs of smoke were coming from that vacuum line, keep in mind that the motor was sitting for a very long time.
