Small problems with 87 turbo, need help

Just bought my first supra and i love the car, it was converted to a 5 speed r154 before i bought it and runs really well, but digging into it i've noticed a few issues. First the 02 sensor was completely unplugged and the brown wire on it's socket was broken as well. I want to fix that wire and reconnect it but it appears it's actually two wires in one so i'm not sure what to do. Also my fuel gauge does not work. I've already pulled the sending unit an cleaned it per another thread i found, and checked the resistance on it as well to ensure is working correctly. not sure what to try next though.

After i fix these two minor issues i'm going to start with the upgrades to the motor and drivetrain, but i need the rest of the systems reliable first. Any help is greatly appreciated.

also can anyone tell me what this is and why it has no cover/ where can i get one? it's located on the passenger side behind the thermostat housing and appears to be geared into the exhaust cam

That is a picture of your CPS and you prolly can get a cover for it in the for sale section. Just ask people that are parting out there car.

Thanks I'll start looking for one tonight any idea on the fuel gauge or O2 sensor wires? I'm not sure how the car runs well with it disconnected to be honest. Most of my motor experience is with sbc and BBC carbed models

New CPS cover is on the way, i've reconditioned my fuel sending unit as well and i'm getting good resistance values from it, but i still have no idea why the fuel gauge isn't working, i can't seem to find any good wiring diagrams on it either, flipping though my Haynes book now but i'm not having a lot of luck.

The Brown wire for the 02 sensor is a shielded wire hence the "two wire in one" The outer part is nothing, that is the shielding, just strip it back out of the way and cut it off, solder the two wires together in the center and use shrink tube, due it right once or do it twice or more if you use a but connector or something.. I just did one today. common problem as the wire cracked due to the extreme heat

Thank you for the great advice everyone, I've repaired the o2 sensor and fuel gauge( had to completely rewire the sending units ground and signal wire as well as regrounding the gauge after that it popped up no problem) though I'm surprised at how little fuel was left after a week with the car. I guess my foot has been a bit heavy... I've noticed a bit of a clunk on slow turns from the front left(passenger side) as well not sure if i'm looking at an issue with the balljoints steering rack or tie rods as always any help is greatly appreciated

Not sure if anyone here has ever completely redone their headliner, but mine hardtop (with a sunroof) was a bitch btw does anyone know where to get sunroof parts like the guide that moves the glass?

i bought that CPS cover for 8 bucks from the Toyota Dealership itself but wow that billet looks smoking all chromed... & what did you expect from a 87 7MGTE? (is yours a GTE?) its a Gas Guzzler. I get 13mpg :runaway: (least thats what the super monitor reads) & i drive shifting at 2000-2500rpms. Rebuilt engine, idle at 800rpms, new fuel filter. i need a new air filter though LOOOOL

Lol according to everything i've read we "never need to change our fuel filters", mines stock and fairly well preserved for being driven the last 23 years in western New York, i had to replace one floor brace on the passenger side with 1/4 in wall square tubing, i'm gonna fill it up and test my actual mileage starting tomorrow, yes it is a GTE btw, i just need to stop driving like a total fool. I'm not stranger to gas guzzlers though, my last vehicle was a 78 Chevy long bed with a 355, long ranges in that truck are a definite no no.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? who told you that or where did you read that? i replaced mine & the Fuel that came out was pitch BLACK. It don't hurt cuz its just 8 bucks & 16 bucks for Wix i think & its moderate to install. Ahhhh 355... lets not even get started w/ 454. lol

All my chevy v8's had an extra package of fuel filters in the glove box the 'never need to change our filters' comment was actually bases on an article on the supramania home page and having bought my supra pretty well used my first though was a tune up according to my chevy days: plugs, wires, oil, air filter, and the fuel filter. Well I couldn't find the damn thing which is actually what led me to this site I have great fuel pressure and my tank is immaculate inside so I can't image why mine would need changed
