I recently came accross an 89 Toyota Supra Targa Top N/A.

I got it for a real steal, a little bit of surface rust, small dent by the targa top, and clean frame and flooring. Needs timing belt, but thats no big deal as I'm mechanic. Looking at swapping in the 1JZ GTE from the JZA70. but for now, looking at small mods i can do on a budget. Mainly appreances, trims, suspension, brakes electrontics, interior. Any help ?

Btw, when i say budget, i dont mean the cheapest parts i can find. I mean good mods that i can buy that will do improvements. on a budget as in a slower pace.

thanks,
bryan

Brakes, suspension, and wheels/tires, all to personal taste. Sway bars are a good investment from what I understand, but I've never swapped any on a Supra before.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't bother trying to do any sort of power mods, your money would be better saved for a turbo engine. Other than that, basic maintenance, and enjoy! NA's make good DD's in my experience.

You said small budget with a small engine in a heavy car. I was going to say deduct weight, but that changes the character of the car. Then I see 1JZ and I think "small budget?". Swap to a 7MGTE.

I agree, leave the car alone, if you strip things out in the name of performance, chances are you're not going to like the car as much. As for a 1j on a small budget, it can be done, given proper skills and tools. My engine/trans cost me $2222 to my door. Less than $800 worth of gaskets, fluids, and a replacement for the broken TPS, and it could have been good to go. I went a bit further, but my point being is that you can have a running 1j in a car for around 3k, done right. Sky's the limit after that.

Plus, OP did say "on a budget as in a slower pace." That is a perfectly acceptable way to do a car up too. Hell, I've been gathering parts for at least 2 years now (3ish if you count saving up for/deciding on the 1j), and it's still not done, nor do I expect to be for at least another year.
