Slow 7M-GTE Help...

okay the other day i raced a friend of mines 89 supra w/ 7mgte in my 85 celica supra w/ stocker 5mge and he managed to beat me only by like a headlight. i feel bad for the kid and i was wondering what the issue with his engine may be? hes worked out it seems like all the boost and vaccuum leaks and still he got beat by a new grand prix the na kind. the engine boosts well it seems like and hes had issue with blowing his stock bov off the car so i don't know what would be wrong? can anyone give me any insight?

Too many variables are in play to narrow it down. Is he stock, sounds like it.

Is his MIL light on?

A bad stock Blow-off valve will create a HUGE boost leak, and cause a huge loss in power...depending on how badly it's broken.

Ask him to take off his stock BPV and see if he can blow through it, if he can, it's toast.

Get a Bosch BOV, they never fail (On Stock Boost), and are relatively inexpensive

no hes not throwing any codes and no MIL light is on. his bov is pretty stiff you can't blow through it... we also changed it with a friend of ours i think turboxs unit and it didn't help...

idk if it applies but he was having issues with it idling correctly it seemed to idle too high

Has he checked his timing?

the car wouldn't run very well if the timing was off would it? the car seems to run fine other than it being slower than it should be

no its the same exempt its dirty as hell and probably needs a fresh build
