Have you tried installing another ground maybe to the back of the head or the manifold? My car was missing pretty bad at idle until I added three or four ground wires and then it purred like a kitten. Just a thought.

Check your idle speed as well. It's a little odd thing that may make up for this. Definitely add more grounds though. It never hurts. It will also extend the life of your battery and alternator.

correct, time it per tsrm, also, this my be a long shot, but test out your ignigher (wow miss speeled the shit out of that)

clean your injectors too, never know

as for more Q/A

how long as it been like this ? ( missing )

did the last owner have head work done to it ?

The last owner moved to Denmark a year before we bought the car.
He gave it to his neighbor to sell, so i have no way of knowing. The neighbor did say the engine was overhauled after the head blew the first time which according to him was 3 Years ago, but under closer inspection it appears to be a swapped JDM 7M-GTE (according to other members of SM). I can be honest i didnt even know it was missing (as it wasnt that noticble) until i changed my spark plugs and gapped them correctly to .031.

The manual says 10 degrees of timing but you guys think its ok to lower it to 5 degrees? Am I the only one that thinks there is something wrong with this way of thinking? This is the typical of MKIII owner bull shit we need avoid!

Give the car a basic tune up, keep the freaking timing set to 10 degrees, while you are at inspect the CPS wires, check for vacuum leaks, check for leaks in the IC piping, check fuel pressure and if that does work compression test it.

Use the search feature there have been many threads about rough idles and slight miss fires…… Search.

Did all of that except for checking the Fuel Pressure and Compression Testing the car.

I don't understand how changing the damned spark plugs and gapping them to spec can make the car miss. The Denso's had been in there prolly for 4 or 5 years and never had any problems. They were all gapped between .035 and .041. I'm gonna change my wires and change my spark plugs again this time to either Denso's or NGK Iridiums. Thanks Bill.
