Since when does the way you cut your hair become a rule of the house?

Is the parents fault. They were the ones who allowed this kind of behavior. I'm 25 and until this day I can't even talk back to my dad. Is called respect. Something many many kids don't have today.

It's kinda like the "Golden Rule", Whoever has the gold makes the rule. Consider your house gold. It might be a stupid rule that your pops said, but it's still his rule. Move out if you don't like it.

I'm sorry, but that's not what the "Golden Rule" represents. :nono:

yeah, my bro and I used to get our asses beat if we talked back..

I remember being hit with the belt..!

my sister's 11, but has never been touched, talk about luxury...

anyway my bro and I both pay rent (I'm 21, he's 24, but we haven't moved out cause my parents need the money right now, well not NEED, but it's allows them more luxuries.) and we can pretty much do whatever the hell we want, but still, we know not to disrespect our parents by doing stupid shit, and causing trouble. Both of us pretty much only sleep here, we don't even eat at home, and we're practically self sustained, yet we don't let it go to our heads...

no matter how old you are, you must obey your parents' rules...

Your family probably wants you to look respectable, and able to get a decent job. The only place I see people with "weird" haircuts, excessive piercings and tattoos are in head shops, tattoo parlors and Hot Topic. Those are not places where respectable people hang out on a regular basis. You may be a beacon of humanity and a model American, but the way you look will always give people a first impression, and may make certain people steer away from you.
I have to tell you that your attitude is showing lack of maturity, as well. Your father is trying to help you out, in my opinion. He's not going about it the best way, but it is for your own good.
If you aren't 18 yet, or haven't graduated High School, and you are living under his roof, you need to do what he says. Kids think that they REALLY DO have rights, and that their opinions count these days. Well, they don't count for squat unless you are emancipated and taking care of yourself. If he is responsible for you legally, he has to make sure you are safe and making sound decisions.
Wait until you are on your own, and see how far that mohawk gets you in the work force. Enough said.

Dude - the mowhawk looks really stupid. Plus, as others have said, don't disrespect your folks regardless. You don't pay rent, you live in their home, if its their rule that you have a haircut that makes you look like a human being - suck it up.

I remember coming home from school one weekend (boarding school), and i had shaved my hair off, and when my mum opened the door, she just burst into tears, which made me feel like shit. Remember, its not just you that's affected in these situations, other people (namely your parents) have to live with you looking like that - it makes them uncomfortable.

When you're old enough and have a job, move out if you dont like the rules. However, with a mowhawk, as Drunk Medic has already said, no-ones going to hire you. Except maybe as a bartender at a Gay Bar :D

That mohawk looked like shit. I could see fighting for it if it looked good, but no. Back in May, I wanted to shave my head. I talked to my dad about it and we compromised, after my sister's graduation I was good to go. There are good ways to go about things your parents wouldn't normally allow. Next time, try talking to them in advance, calmly. Works wonders

Getting and HOLDING a job is a great step to showing you can be responsible to your parents. If they know you're trying to be responsible and you talk to them, you can normally get more leeway on "the rules".

Exactly when the person who pays the bills says it is. Accept it or get a job and move out. Now. While you still know everything.

Exactly, I have had a job sence I was 13.(The first 3 years were only for the summer's.) I am now 18 and paying my parents rent, paying my car insurance and phone bill amongst others. The first day I got a job my parents LISTENED to what I had to say and vice versa. The level of respect between my parents and I grew leaps and bounds because of this. Will Starbucks be your first REAL job? You will learn alot about where your parents are coming from after your first real job. You realize how much the have busted their asses to support you and your brother. I can barely make it on my own,(I will be moving out in a few months.) I couldn't imagine what it would be like with kids. Just show some respect, swallow your pride and tounge. Most of all pick your battles. Like you said, it's just hair. So why make an even bigger deal out of it by starting a thread and arguing with your dad? Just adding fuel to the fire if you ask me.

You look better without the mohawk anyway. A mohawk doesn't give you a nice clean cut look. Even if you wear a suit, you still look grungy with mohawk. But if that grungy type look is what you were going for, then you got it with the mohawk. It doesn't look very mature though. You have good looks and I don't think a mohawk compliments them at all. This is just my two cents though... I work in a office and a mohawk wouldn't be very impressive around there. I like to look clean when I go to work and go out.

I mean this post in the most non gay way possible. Just trying some constructive criticism.
