I noticed that in the dyno categories there has been mild, wild, and unlimited for each engine. In the best exterior competition, it there is only stock and modified categories. This means that to win a trophy you will either need to be bone stock, or have a full-blown body kit or widebody to beat guys like Supranick and me.

Why not make the exterior categories stock, mild, and wild? Mild could be limited to only an added lip or front bumper with integrated lip and stuff like shaved mouldings (i.e. Randy's car). Wild would be anything with sideskirts or an aftermarket wing, or any full body kit.

This arguement comes up every year.

First reason... money. We already give away 31 awards.

Second, there will always be someone that wants to redefine the line between Mild and Wild so that they can come in under the wire and be at the top of the Mild category rather than the bottom of the Wild category. No matter where you draw that line you will piss someone off. We won't even go into the problem of people not understanding how to vote. And... Welding? In a mild category? I'd say full body kit would qualify for Mild before I'd say welding.

We've already cut back on some of the dyno awards - the 1Js only have one class. We are evaluating dropping some of the other classes as there just isn't enough participation. 9 awards spread across 30 cars is kind of pointless.

Likewise, 5 awards across 20 MkIIs is a bit wasteful.

Until someone can come up with a foolproof way to handle the exterior awards they will stay the way they are - I am open to private discussions on this matter. Email KeithH@Supras.org to discuss this outside of this (or any other) forum.

I've seen "mild" cars in Vegas that should have taken the "Modified" trophy away from the "wild" car that actually won. We are still trying to figure out how to prevent these awards from being a popularity contest. I think we should fix that before we go redefining the categories.

Let the event organizers vote. How many people is that? About 10-15, right?

As long as everyone attending is allowed to vote, it will never not be a popularity contest.

Just like ROTM is only voted on here by the mods and not just everybody.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa... How can u compare urself to me!!?? ur not even done with ur project and dont worry, ill take home the trophy from u this year too! (this is the showoff shit talking thread right?) :biglaugh:

in the "Import Show" world (HIN, Import Showoff etc..) if u have

aftermarket/stock front lip, everything else stock(bodywise only)= Stock class
bumper/side/rear skirts or modified rear wing= MILD class
fender/metal modifications/ no door handles/ other MAJOR body modifications=WILD

that system seems fair enough to me. but prefer a stock or wild catergories only. if u have a tastefully done bomex kit than great. but with these kits becoming the norm, dont expect cause u waxed ur car at the event u should take home best modified when ur up against 10 other kitted rides. and if there is stock and wild only, then again... u put sides and rears on, u better beleive ur in the wild class and better bring more than a couple hundred dollars in bolt on kits to the gunfight. :p

with the attention this year SILV is already getting i know for a fact im lucky to take home anything at all this year. there are some REALLY nice and new creations (tekdeus being one of them) in the mk3 community which claim will be present. i look foreward to seeing all of them and most importantly, meeting the owners as well. :)

lol@ yer smack talk, best of luck to ya! I should at least win a trophy for slowest project to complete. :)

I also think it would be a better idea if the SILV organizers chose the winners.

We barely have enough time to breath. I don't even get to see the Supras until I get back home and look at the pictures.

As Nick stated, I think the HIN categories are a good guideline

bumper/side/rear skirts or modified rear wing= MILD class
fender/metal modifications/ no door handles/ other MAJOR body modifications=WILD

Well, my bumper is almost same as stock other than the hole in the middle..so I would be stock? The OEM lip is incorporated in my bumper. I made the mold from the OEM front.

Stock = Stock - EVERY body panel must remain Toyota Factory OEM. We want to give those precious few people who choose to maintain a very clean STOCK Supra a chance to win something. So this one is NOT up for debate.

If someone can prove a better way to define Mild vs Wild and can come up with a foolproof way to judge these I am open to the discussion. We also have to keep things within the budget too.

I am looking at possibly adding another award category though - but this may be a 1st - 3rd place across ALL the gens.

We're already dropping the MkIIs down to a single exterior award - "MkII Best Exterior"

I think Mild and Wild is fine for exterior awards, most cars with lips, and basic body kits would be mild, then the widebody, exessive JDM , and shaved cars would be considered wild.......dont worry Tek your car will be a top contendor for the Wild category!!

OK... by that logic we didn't have a single "wild" car in Vegas last year.

I guess "MkIII Best Exterior" it is this year. :)

This is exactly the kind of problems we face with trying to create Mild and Wild classes.

OK... I'll make you guys a deal.

Stock + Mild + Wild on one condition.

at least 75 MkIIIs must prepay their registration fee online by the time I have to order up the awards.

I think that is totally fair. :)

So essentially 25 cars registered can support one class?

That makes sense. Lots of people think money is an evil, but the bottom line is an event like this needs to pay for itself, otherwise we'll never find another sucker, errr, I mean volunteer to run it.

Hey... I resemble that comment. :) This is true. I get no monitary gains from this event. Sure... I've had a free hotel room for the past few years... and now that I am not driving my own Supra down the event does pay for my pimp'n minivan rental so I can haul all of the stuff down...

Rennat - we've had an RSVP list for several years now. Since we are adding the Registration fee this year I have to make some adjustments but there will be a public list posted. Once the site is launched that list will start to be populated.

Last year the classes were as follows:
