So they slow the bullet down?
well there would be more initial friction when shooting because the bullet would have to travel further along the barrel. So i think the friction it causes would inherintely slow it down.

I would also think the force that the gas would normally use to push it down the barrel would deminish as it was diseminated through the baffles of the supressor.

I've looked into the licenses required, and spending upwards of 2000.00 to get them, and then purchase just ONE suppressor is a pretty minimal estimate.

Want fully auto weapons? I can get that license here in Idaho, but again, it's about 2k, and then the weapons are 10k or more! Yep, figure 10 and UP for a fully licensed auto submachine gun with a suppressor, it goes even higher than that. (So, example of a MP5 submachine gun with a suppressor is about 25k according to the local gun shop that sells them here.) Does it cost HK that much more to make that weapon? Noway, but the market is so small, and the costs to sell them so high, that the prices are insane.

Ok, that being said, how to make a cheap'o suppressor? Easy. Duct tape and a clean empty 2 liter bottle. (This is for a .22 caliber rifle.) Just slide the bottle down over the barrel till it is snug on the snout of the bottle. (Most 1022 rifles with no front sites have bull barrels, so you just slide it down a few inches, and then wrap with a few turns of duct tape to secure the bottle firmly on the end of the barrel.)

Now chamber one round, and fire it. (The bullet makes the hole you need in the pop bottle. ) Notice the very loud sounding clack-clack from the slide, and the sound of small brass hitting the ground. You might even hear the hammer fall, but I really never noticed personally.

How long does it last? Never wore out. The bottle did become very full of gray smoke, and the duct tape was a PITA to clean off my barrel later, but sound wise, the bullet sonic boom was louder than the sound of the powder burning by quite a bit. Oh, I did bump the bottle a few times, so in the end, there were more than a few holes in the bottle, but who cares? It was going into the trash anyway! And with a 30 round clip in, you adjust your aim by watching where they hit, v/s trying to aim over the bottle bulge.. LOL

What would be cool is to make one that has a large expansion chamber that hangs down under the barrel so my scope would work fine. Will have to try that someday, but have fun with trash and duct tape.

Be aware that any suppressor without the correct paperwork, fees and licenses are illegal, and it can get you fined, jailed and your weapons confiscated.. (Pretty much they can have the used duct tape and used up pop bottle... don't think the cops would see the humor in that statement however...)

2K to get a permit for a suppressor? It should only cost you the 200 one time tax, and then you have to get permission from your local chief of police, and then wait on paperwork forever. Unless it's different in Idaho, which in case, I'd move to a state that doesn't suck, haha. Owning a suppressor without the license to do so is a felony and the last thing I'd be worrying about are my guns being confiscated.

i know some one some were is going to call BS but i think this might work to some extent(worked awsome on my paintball gun i had you heard nothing)
find a pice of PVC piping the a little larger the the width of your barrel and drill a hole wack of holes in it fill it down so there r no bits in it then find some steel wool and rap it around the pvc piping find a larger diamiter pice of pvc piping and slide over the steel wool. now find/make a washer that covers both ends of pipeing and steel wool tape/attach washer over both ends and paint

edit: after thinking this over copper might work better then you could braze the washer and pipe together

That was done by hitting a 5 or 6 inch adjustable wrench on a cable supporting a utilitiy pole. Try it out.

Not just illegal...a federal felony. You have to process the paperwork through your local Sheriff and pay the tax before you can own a suppressor. I you want to make one, gotta do the same thing.

The only truely silent silencer you can get is for a .22. Everything else it just makes it quiter, not silent.

LOL...Nice try ;)

At least that's what the judge would say. The second you have an inner chamber with holes that vent gas into an outer chamber with sound deadening material like steel wool...you have a suppressor. You probably would get probation though if you have no previous record. In the states, if convicted of this, you could never legally own a firearm again.

I shot an H&K MP-5 9mm fully automatic suppressed weapon in the military that was dead quiet...at least as far as bullet sound was concerned. We were using subsonic ammunition, so there was no bullet "crack" at all either. You did hear the action of the weapon cycling bullets from the magazine. Like I said earlier....sounded like a sewing machine on steroids :evil2:

Even a suppressed .22 is not completely silent...you still hear the action of the weapon cycling rounds. The same thing applies to the ammunition...rounds exiting the muzzle at over 1000 ft/sec will be supersonic and cause a "crack".
