This is for anyone who has either re-painted their car or installed new side trim. What are the approximate dimensions (thickness and width) of the adhesive trim that sticks the side mouldings to the car? I'm putting everything back together and I'd like to have everything sealed like it was from the factory.

thanks in advance

I don't have any adhesive that sticks my mouldings to the car - they clip into place, with a bolt or two thrown in for good measure :)

You need to put the doubble sided embelm tape on the 89+ moldings. There is clips, that hold them on, but they will be loose and wear though the paint on the car within a few months. 3M or ProForm makes some good tape. 1/4" or 3/8" wide will work fine, the thickness is 1/16" or similar.

1/16 is the size? I thought it was a tad thicker, but I suppose I am in no position to argue...since none of it is left on any of the trim pieces I have.

Thanks a lot.

Adam, you can get 3M double sided tape from any auto parts store... if you don't mind, snap some pics of your mouldings when you put it on - I hadn't put any on mine, as I hadn't seen any need to.

don't you need something thicker than 1/16"? the moldings have alot of space on the back of them, unless you put the 3M stuff on an edge? *confused*

well, in looking through some boxes of parts, i managed to find a piece of the rubber strip I had removed from my driver door. It is basically a piece of rubber approximately 5 mm thick, with adhesive on either side. It is roughly 4 mm thick. It is actually surprisingly stout - the rubber portion looks as if it is designed for repeated uses, by replacing the adhesive tape on either side.

Most oem adhesive products are 3m from factory. Just get some automotive 3M double sided tape. Thats what every dealership I have worked at has used.
