Should i have both?

Hey guys. I have twins on 1j with two wastegates and a BOV.
My question is do i need the BOV?
What do i gain from it? and what happens if i remove it?

YES! the bov is a relief vavle, without it theirs no where for the pressure to go.

You should probably look up what a bov, or more correctly a bpv, does.

some may argue, but this is true.. and definitely in regards to journal bearing turbos.

BB turbos can actually go for quite some time without them (many Japanese drivers do not run them), and better response is achieved due to less air escaping the system between throttle/off throttle.



as a general rule of thumb, it's a good thing to run one though.. the turbo will last longer (BB or JB), and the effect from air escaping isn't that extreme or anything.

This is probably the first time some one actually asked of removing one. Everyone always wants to add more or a louder one.

Thanks for everyones help on this. because the turbos that i got is from a half supra from japan and the owner of this half didn't put a BOV

yeah, it's a really common sight if you go to Japan.. they just care a lot less about turbo life and more about performance etc.. there is also a great public transit system, so a lot of cars are used purely for personal enjoyment; another reason why lower mileage is more common.
