im posting this here instead of the other cars section because i need to be talked off the ledge or pushed, you guy pick.

basically i followed this guy in his many many racing exploits, and his recent rebuild of the car. i have a car like this that i have been sticking lots of money towards making a period correct factory racecar. i never thought id have a chance to own this car. mine is about the rarest version of this car as it only had about 500 copies made in r spec in 67.5, this racecar is not the race car, but has history and has been proven to be a great car(a few issues need sorting but mostly setup).

i could buy this one and sell my project to somebody that will spend the $ to build it right.( i have lots of rare stuff on my car that datsun only made once)

or i could buy this car, have a racecar to abuse, and finish my car at my leasure

or i could not buy this, and continue dreaming, and slowly building my car

the major con to the whole deal is that i would have to stop the build im getting ready to do on the supra, and maybe even sell it(probably not, but race cars are expensive to run)

3500$ for all , but it is about a third of his investment and well within my savings at the moment.

anyway here is the link to the build of this car
http://rides.webshots.com/album/267887557HfboLz

i will link some videos later of the car running its ass off, just gotta find them

The way to make a small fortune owning a race car is to start with a large fortune....

You have too many. :)

(There - I was the voice of reason, now everybody else can tell you to go for it.)

here is mine, i have had some crazy offers on mine in its current form, it is #s matching and is a homologation car as it is in the 500 car range:icon_bigg

the srl's from 65.7 were the foundation of datsuns racing legacy, ever hear of brock racing enterprises?

he has invested about 20,000 in the car over the years, not including racing supplies or labor it is a ka24 supercharged motor. he is asking for 3500 with all of his spare parts and a trailer(he had a life altering event last week, but he wont share what?)

Well, I don't know much about these cars, but after seeing where yours is at, I'd probably take a good look at that finished one.

Personally i would get a kart or something though... autocross just isn't all that exciting IMO.

If he heard the voice of reason, he wouldnt own an MKIII ;)

No, seriously though.. Mike is right.. I see people dump money on top of money into racing, and this is at a local Podunk track here. That extra money would make a great "rainy day" fund, or even put into a CD.. The point is to make money, not throw it away...

But if you're hell bent on throwing money out, you can always have a Spartaesque battle amongst SM members for it.. Or hell.. donate it to SM :) .. At least its less of a financial suicide.. lol

Interesting. I vote leave it alone and keep building your Datsun and Supra. Focus on 2 major projects, not 3. I had a friend who kept bouncing from car to car (moreso he bought the cars and didn't sell them, last I heard he had something like 15 cars) and none of his cars ever got done. Hell, he has a fully stripped down AE86 (and I do mean stripped, there is nothing more you can remove from this car without a sawzall).

see that is the problem, the supra has always been the car i intended on getting rid of apon completion of my 311. i have no real attachment to it, it is just a nice car i bought to tide me over. with this car i could have a great jump start to my 311, and one to drive as well. i could focus my racing stuff here and build mine for the street strictly. i was going to build a track car out of mine due to the rusty qtrs, this one comes with 3 sets of usable qtrs, there are also other spares in his collection like a running u20/5spd combo that could be bolted in place of my not running engine while i build the #s matching stuff. he kept most of his stock stuff as he build this 400hp monster(the supercharged motor , not the na one currently installed).

one hell of a jumpstart, but quite a bit of stuff to ship/ pickup from texas

I would buy considering you live the Datsun. Have fun with it and work on yours in spare time.

If yours is as rare as you say, you should put it back the way it was supposed to be. And beat on this one. :biggrinbo

Sounds like a decent deal considering what he has in it. But that usually is the way it goes. Build a racecar, put a ton of money and time in and then sell it for a fraction of what was invested.

Anyways, you just want someone to say yah, go get it. You dont want anyone to talk you out of it. :drink1:

Im a Gearhead and love all cars (well....not Hondas:nono:)

Im with Gearhead ^^

For that kind of price you have to get it. There's $3500 in spare parts alone. All cars need a good home not just Supras. Maybe not all hondas. Ive been doing some work on an all original '72 240z the last couple of days and have always loved Datsun/Nissan. Biased opinion, maybe. Good advice, I think so. If all else fails Im in Texas, just send it over here. :evil2:

Some people LIKE cars and are gearheads, etc, whatever you want to call them. Make doesnt matter. Some are truly dedicated to their brand and thats fine too.

I have owned several cars and am partial to Mopars because thats what I grew up around. But I am also a diehard Supra guy thats been building them for 14 yrs. Quite a contradiction, especially around here in Ft wayne. Home of the domestics (and import haters). ::fundy::

Some of my cars:
70 Challenger 340/383
69 Dart GTS 383
68 Barracuda 383 893hp
68 Dart GTS conv 340
70 Duster 383

Just to name a few I owned.

Car sounds like a good deal. Only you can decide to get it or not.

That's a pretty impressive car list DragRacer.

If I grew up in the muscle car era I would no doubt be a Mopar guy. I sure hope you still have that barracuda... that'd be a sick car to own.
