I now have a R154, but I tried the green truck bushing and the one that goes on the end of the shifter on my w58 and still had a very sloppy shifter. I may be wrong, but I think after 200K miles, the piece with the hole in it that keeps the shifter from coming out of the tranny was worn out. The hole was enlarged, and I could pull the shifter out of the tranny even with the piece in place! This allowed mine to wobble badly. You might want to check that also.

dude do you have pipe cleaner arms mine i flick and it goes into gear with 2 finger's there is such thing as hitting the g spot and not hitting the lips and bending you dick

short shifters on the R154 are pointless.

To quick. You will be attempting to hammer through the gears but infact be slower. IE measured by time. No what you mind or butt dyno feel. The R154 was not designed with short shifter so as such all it is, is a "feel good" mod. I rather leave the extra leverage there.

From my personal experience..it is not a "flick" and it goes in. They are notchy and too close, for friendly/comfy driving. (At least for me.) .

I think Poodles is talking about the NM short shifter.

Ok...so as I did say this (see below as I put it in red for both posts.)

IMO short shifters are not good for this car. I have tried 2 types now and none are good (at least for my driving style) They are simply too short.

It is not even a "feel good" mod IMO. I think they are a waste and like I said, I have tried 2 types.

I was being nice and since you asked, I have tried his. I took it out after a few days. Nothing beats the OEM shifter IMO. Anything else? :icon_razz

You didn't say that you've tried his type in this thread specifically until just now though, that's why Poodles was confused. Glad that's cleared up now ;). What was the other?

I like the Jim King shifter in my car. I didn't like it at 1st it was way too stiff, but after a few hundred miles its loosened up and is nice and smooth. Hopefully it holds up that way. Unfortunately the stock shifter doesn't fit with a R154 in a Mk2.

No I didn't as said said this instead ;) See in Bigger red this time :D

All in all, the shifter will be a personal choice so to each is own as they say.

Translated...........Duane didn't want to bad mouth a product of a well respected member of the community. It is Duane's PERSONAL preference to not use a short shifter. What's so hard to understand?

Many people have used and liked the NM shifter. And, it is at a price that is better than most.

I personally don't see the point in one myself. Maybe one day I will try one though for my own experience.

there is the shifter bushing where the actual main fulcrum point is, and the little cup that goes on the end of the shifter and goes into the hole to interface with the tranny to actually shift. The Marlin Crawler st is a VERY tight tolerance and forcing it will usually just shave off part of the cup and make it loose, which defeats the purpose of replacing the parts...

get it to go STRAIGHT in and it's fine...

Very true. It feels like you are going to snap the shifter seat in half when you go to put it in. Do NOT force it. I took a small bit of sandpaper and lightly took off a very small amount of material all the way around the outer edge and it fit perfect. I love the thing.

NashMan.

Sorry dude. I have been working on Supras since 1994. Yes that is 13 years ago while this car was a wet dream to most folks in this forums. There is no g-spots on the R154. The syncros do not allow for QUICK shifting even when the tranny is brand spanking new.

SS V3 shifter here. Works like a charm. B4 had to grind my r154 to find 3rd gear and now with the V3 shifts like butter.

duane: may I ask what other shifter you tried?

You CAN slam the R154 into gear, it just doesn't like to do it (usually making a nasty quick grind and/or a nasty click).

I like the notchy feel, but I guess that's just me after driving sloppy FWD cars with manuals...
