That's good to know, I'll have to order a new one.

You can contact me after 3.January.2008, as I have a few extra inner bushings pre-drilled.

I'd give the a difficulty level of about 4 to replace.

It's best to replace the bushing when the shifter is out of the car.
I tried an experiment trying to swap it while the shifter was installed, and
just took way too long.

Just need to remove the side screws (they have a dab of red locktite on them),
then some needle nose pliers to turn the bushing until the bushing tangs move out.
(one can see this when they have the new bushing in hand).
Then hold the shifter housing and tap out the shifter/bushing assembly.

Then snap on the new bushing, lube it, then line up the bushing and shifter side holes,
then push down on the shifter until the bushing snaps in place.

I figure it's about a 1 hour job from shifter removal, bushing replacement, shifter install.

I've heard the C's is great, but it is stock height and close to the steering wheel, and cutting it shorter is a major job.

wtf... the c's "short shifter" is stock height? wow, good thing i didn't waste any money on one then. i guess i'll have to get the suprasport one.

It's a short throw shifter. It greatly reduces the throw of the shift.

It's supposed to be at that height. I'm not sure how that makes it a waste of money. :dunno:

Cutting the Cs is a big mistake. It's not any closer to the wheel than a stock shifter. The big issue with cutting it is you just lost all your leverage and on top of that, the fulcrum is in a different position relative to a stock shifter, making it even harder to shift, not to mention the rough notchy, high effort shifts. This will make the car very difficult to shift and will lead to many missed shifts.

Here is a cut JDM Cs:

Here is the US spec one:

As you can see, they are just completely different. The JDM one uses a stock bushing. The US spec one uses a special bushing from Cs not pictured. You can also see the large aluminum housings are very different designs as well as a bunch of other differences.

If you are only looking for a physically shorter shifter because you think it looks cool, you might as well do the SOGI mod. If you are looking for a shorter throw between gear positions, you should get one of the units already mentioned. Like I already said, I went with a Cs because it is the only one I have not read reports of it breaking in two. I am extremely impressed with the quality and performance of the Cs.

i just don't like the idea of the "row boat" factor of the stock shifter height. i wish C's made a short height, short throw shifter. i'm really only looking for a shorter throw between gears of course, but still.
