Yep, $20 for the insulation, $10 for the couplers, $10 for the pipe. Not bad, I think.
Full 3" aluminum with heat shielding.

Do you know of any comparable intakes for N/A Supras? Cost, quality, or performance wise?

*How's it look? This was just a cell phone pic. I'll take a better one tomorrow.

What is the purpose of the intake having a larger portion in the middle than the rest of the intake? You have the three inch portion then you have a five inch round box, then it goes back to three inch, why?

the huge part is the hemholtz(?) resonator, supramania sources and TSRM i believe say that it is a resonator that helps with performance as well as it shouldnt be removed? can anyone chime in on that one.

If it's for performance, then shouldn't you leave it in? I figured the engineers put er in it for a reason, don't know Toyota would some thing in a car that doesn't do anything. not bashing of course, just trying to learn something.

The pipe was a one time opportunity, someone had it as scrap. But these results are completely repeatable with $65. Any N/A owners interested? I'll take detail pictures later today.

its bassicly a intake muffler. keeps the hiss of the engine sucking in air down. turbo cars dont have one so not needed imo

Im an N/A owner and yes you will lose power if you dont have the helmholt resonator.
Its in the NA FAQ:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmholtz_resonance

The reason turbo cars dont have it is because they dont need it.

READ:
http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?60249-The-N-A-Upgrade-FAQ

or if youre too lazy....

Intake- The stock intake in itself is a good flowing cold air intake, and the helmholtz resonator (intake resonator) is actually good for performance and should not be removed. The only thing that should be removed is the accordian section, and it should be replaced by something such as an aluminum pipe. This will get your engine breathing better due to smooth flow. Also if you decide to change out the stock filter, go for an AEM DryFlo as those are currently the best filters on the market because they offer good flow AND filtering.

You have experience and proof? Dyno chart or air flow test? I'm now tempted to do a dyno with the stock intake, my intake, and one with the resonator and smooth pipes, but I don't have smooth pipes... Stock vs. mine will have to do.

I know some dynos had been shown before (in favor of the resonator,) but I can't find them anywhere...

lolz, wikipedia is our FAQ now guys. and a completely reliable source...

why not? this makes sense how? they may have a higher air velocity, but corrections could be made if it is so important.

Thanks for the ALL CAPS, I've *never* read this before. lol...

So slow_yota, can you tell us how the resonator increases performance?
I reckon the performance gained from a smooth, even pathway for airflow offsets or more than compensates for the loss of the resonator. But I'd have to test.

Can anybody explain how the resonator works? More so than: "...the helmholtz resonator (intake resonator) is actually good for performance..." I don't know what happened to all the threads, I can't find themanymore in the 7MGE section...

I know it may have minuscule HP gains, but mines shiny! :)

The point was really an aesthetic upgrade along with the heat shielding and smoother airflow.
Thus the thread name, "Shiny..."

And why my strut bar reads "slow" ^_^ lol

Next is to rig up some cold air flow from the bumper and some heat shielding around the intake

Yes I have experience, I dynoed my car with and w/o it...against other variables as well.
Anyways, With out the resonator it lost hp..Really thats enough for me to keep it on.
It isnt the prettiest thing but it works so..and its not so much that the hp was huge but the power band
was way off from what it should of been so, Unless you like even less low end power.
