well I been looking into increasing my hp with spend little too no money at all. I was reading on the SOGI web site and came across shimming the wastegate. Now I have heard ppl before using the term and heard of ppl like describing there mods like, I have my car shimmed to 9 psi. So I read the explanaton on SOGI and it sounds somewhat easy and looks like it can gain alot of hp without spending any money. So is there a disadvantage too this?? and does anyone have better pics/despcrption on how too do this. Any info or comments would be great.

Also my mods right now are:
Drop in K&n filter
3 inch downpipe.(wich connects back to stock cat and exausht)

also only have stock boost gauge

this has been discussed before. alot of ppl are concerned that the shims will overstress a 16yr old wastegate spring and cause some kind of permature faliure. i dont know if this is true or not but it makes sense. personally i would just spend $16 on an e-bay mbc, o wait, i've already done that. you can find a thread that i think was titled something like "cheap and free mods", talks all about this.

well I have done massive resarching and searching on the forum and I have decide to do it. I read that mabye adding liek 4 washers can cause quite an issue but adding 1 or 2 washers doesn't hurt. So im goign to add 2 washers. Jus got back from home depot and bought 6 8 mm washers goign to toss 4 of them on (have 2 extra for spares incase somethinh happens). Im goign to do this mod this afternoon after i write my final, I'll get my friend to give me a hand just to make sure nothing goes wrong. I'll post the results later today :bigthumb: :burnout:

I come from a land down under
GJ: (or anyone that may know) Have you ever ran the car on a dyno and watched how far the actuator opens at 17psi? (Just interested how far it needs to open to control the turbine speed)

Only "issue" I can see with this sort of mod is if you get the gate shimmed so far the spring coil binds or runs out of travel.

sorry, didn't see the canada under your avatar ;) PB is penetrating lube, you can find similar stuff at any auto store. it will break all the rust out and lube the bolt so you can get it out
K i will give that a shot tommrow also my friend has some ideas so we will try that as well.im done for today im not goign to even touch it after 2 hours of cursing and getting fustrated I eventually tired myslef out and passed out on the couch for a nap. After waking up i felt better so i just closed the hood and left it in the garage. Every time I have to look at it it just makes me want to go at it again. Best just to leave it till tommrow as i have finals to study for.

Worse comes to worse i'll just put everything back together and just forget about increasing my boost. :wtc:

Big pair of vice grips will get it off for sure.

Future advice - always use a box end wrench to break bolts loose. Anyone who can strip a bolt with a box end is truly a hack. ;)

Seriously, get the thing off there, shim it out some, AND get a $25 manual boost controller from Dr. Jonez, you'll be a much happier camper.

IJ, no, I haven't put the car on a dyno at all yet. Even if I did, there is no way to see how far the actuator is opening while the car is running - it's buried deep under the turbo, which is under a bunch of other crap.

I have already tried vice grips they don't work at all. ITs hard to get in that little space too, also I mean the bolt is not wrecked its the head of the bolt that is rounded. The vice grips just keep slipping.
