Hey guys! I just installed my 57 Trim yesterday. Sweet!!!!! :biglaugh:

My original CT was stock with the wastegate shimmed and after I pulled it off the car and removed the shims prior to storing it, I noticed that the spring seem a little weak/stretched. I'm not sure if that makes sense; but, my guess is that the added pressure from the shims actually did harm to the spring.

I did shim my 57 which leads me to my question. Is shimming a bad thing?

I certainly don't want to damage my new 57!!!

Yes, it's been known to weaken the spring. Shimming's pretty stupid when you could just do it the right way and buy a MBC for anywhere from 20-50 bucks, yeah.

shimming is a good thing for the most part. yes it can weaken the sping over time but there are several benefits with a shim vs an MBC.

1. you can build boost faster as the wg is held closed/less open. this also helps hold boost until redline.
2. boost spikes aren't common.
3. cheaper and less mess than an MBC in that you can put a shim or 2 in and be good to go vs need/want to play with an MBC.

i ran shims on my ct26 for over a year without any problems but after i got an EBC i didnt look back. just remember, everything in moderation
