Hey I am planning on shimming my oil pump while I have the front of the motor apart for a timing belt anyways. I searched for a while and came up with no info on how to do it.
I bassically wanted to know how big of a shim do you all use and is there any threads you could point me too with some pictures?
Thanks

Ok but I am wondering, Right now when my car is fully warmed up at idle, approx 700rpm I only have 10 psi, is that enough?

10 psi per 1k rpms tends to be the norm for most engines. also remember pressure does not equal more oil just means more restriction to flow

10psi doesn't sound right on a jz engine. at 700rpms on my past 6 2j's, i have had 1.3-1.5bar when hot. so that's almost double what you have. either your oil is shit, or you bottom end/oil pump is going.

also, it does matter where you mounted your oil pressure sensor. i have a greddy one in the stock location, and the stock one (7m) in the oil filter mount. both read roughly the same, the stocker a bit less. and if you're relying on your stock gauge/sensor, i wouldn't. 20 year old electronics aren't usually accurate.

you're right, the tsrm does say the minimum pressure is around 10psi at idle. all i'm saying is that is the minimum, and something is on it's way out if he's at the minimum.

dslocal, i would say open up the oil pump and check it's clearances if you can, and compare to the TSRM.

Well at 3k I have around 45-50psi. above that it increases steadily to about 70psi or so.

Di Rosa, I figure since I am pulling the pump anyway's I'll pull it apart and check it. I am using a prosport guage and I know it is reading accurately because I checked it against a good known mechanical gauge.

I guess If the motors going it might be time to go 1.5jz anyway:evil2:

A GTE pump with a GE block (or no oil squirters) will result in higher overall pressure also. That pressure isn't bad. I am about 20PSI more than you. Normal. The pressure will probably pop the front main seal out past 8000 for sure! lol

You don't need that pump unless you're revving really high all the time. After 8000rpms, it's not a matter of if, but when it will fail.

Interestingly enough, I've never heard a 1JZ FMS popping out at 8500rpms daily driving.

Makes me wonder if a 1JZ oil pump on a 2J would prevent a pop out or not.
