Shim bucket better? (Domestic upbringing dies hard) It's really nothing more than a solid lifter with removeable shim to adjust the camshaft's clearance... Valve lifters are technically camshaft followers as well...
Lifter/bucket/follower, I figure we're all on the same page, irregardless if the cam directly activates the valve, or if there is a pushrod in the way
For reference, I suggested that because the last head I pulled out of a 7M actually had the camshaft followers mixed up when the PO 'rebuilt' (I use that loosely) the head - not enough clearance, head heated up, followers expanded and a couple wedged themselves into place. It's a possibility for the OP
