lifter? :runaway:

Shim bucket better? (Domestic upbringing dies hard) It's really nothing more than a solid lifter with removeable shim to adjust the camshaft's clearance... Valve lifters are technically camshaft followers as well...

Lifter/bucket/follower, I figure we're all on the same page, irregardless if the cam directly activates the valve, or if there is a pushrod in the way :D

For reference, I suggested that because the last head I pulled out of a 7M actually had the camshaft followers mixed up when the PO 'rebuilt' (I use that loosely) the head - not enough clearance, head heated up, followers expanded and a couple wedged themselves into place. It's a possibility for the OP ;)

I'd be sure of what"Voids" your warranty before tearing into anything
I purchsed the head from Dover Cylinder. All they do is rebuild heads for cars. A few local high hp supra guys have used them in the past and they are pretty cool here in the atlanta store. Im sure if I just take the head off the car without taking the head apart it won't ruin my warranty. But thanks for putting that out there.

I think I'd inspect it further. I'd pressurize the cylinder to prevent the valve from dropping incase the spring is broken (keepers will probably be loose when not under tension) and inspect from there. If it's just a broken spring and the valve hasn't dropped, I'd consider inspecting everything for damage/binding, just replace the spring and not say anything to the rebuild shop. If the spring IS all that's broken, why remove the head for a 5 minute repair? If the springs are stock, a bunch of us have spares. Know I can ship a few with ease. Don't drop a keeper or broken spring piece into the motor.

Good Luck.

Yea its certainly a 1st in my book.
Hey dr j what would you think is the cause? Poor workmanship on the shop? One of my pals suggested that I get them to double check the other seats before I take the head back.

If they're a reputable shop, as you say they are, then they should rebuild/replace the head completely to fully please the customer. To simply R&R the one would be outright ridiculous.

Yes I just dropped off the head and yes they will be doing the repairs for free. I will go there tuesday and pick it up. The owner said that if I want he has several other cores that I can choose from and he will gradly rebuild one of those if I prefer another head all together.

hard to say. in the other cases, it's been for no appearant reason- i.e. not after being serviced....though for this case i think it is quite suspect...
