Shifter Bushing problem

Awhile back my shifter became really loose and sloppy so I ordered the Marlin Crawler set and installed them and things were great. Unfortunetly after a while it was loose again and I checked and the socket on the end of the shifter had slipped off. I pushed it back on. now a few weeks later it did it again.
Does anyone know what could be causing this? Any help would be great. Thanks

How tight does the little plastic bushing fit on the shifter? If it's very tight then I could be popping off while shifting....

Get some scotchbrite and polish the end of the shifter till the bushing moves around freely....then remove it again and apply Molly grease and reinstall....

i double checked. its tight and all the way on. it glides around perfectly without any grease. It doesnt come off right away. but about a week or 2 later it slips off and you usually notice it right away.
any other suggestions?

Spray it with crc electrical cleaner to make sure there's no oils on it then slip it on. I know the crc electrical is safe on plastics.

just a thought

Electrical cleaner can be had at any autoparts store like pepboys....it's like $8 a can crc is just a brand....nonchlorinated brake parts cleaner is safe on most plastics also.

It all seems right though. I ordered the right set through Marlin Crawler and have never heard of complaints about them

When you say it glides around perfectly without grease, does that mean that you didn't use any? Or, does that mean it was fine before you applied the grease?

Make sure you apply the grease, maybe that's why its popping off down the road.

The first time it had grease on it so i just left that on and then put it on. the secondtime ithought maybe the grease is causing it to slide off so i wiped it off.

Im not sure of the tranny. I looked it up when i ordered the part but cant remember off the top of my head.

it could be worn down because my mom drove it without a shifter bushing for a while because somehow she just " didnt notice" but there didnt seem to be any damage.

you can try this if you don't wana buy the billy kit

take your shifter's lower pivit bushing and score it with aknife cover out side in oil restanie gule

clean stock shift ball socket best you can score it the plastick with a knife

then put in shifter alow to dry over night or what ever the gule tells you to

i did this on mk2 long ago that had simure issue's and he still runing around to this day that way like 4 to 5 years ago

give it try if you wish
