Trust me guys, I don't like the flat black either. When I get a chance, I'll pick up a can of Maroon spray paint and repaint them so that they match my car, or are atleast close enough to matter. But once I get done with the body work, I'll repaint the entire car candy apple red, tail lights included. The only reason they are still flat black is that I have a base driving suspension and that means I have to park my car 15 miles from where I live on base.

My tail lights are an example of what you could do with repainting your lights. You could always go the Skyline style route and make the outer light bigger than the inner light. And you could recreate your own design in the turn signal lights. I didn't spray these lights, but I do like the idea. But right now, I can't implement my plans for them. I am working on fixing things on my car one at a time. And trust me, those are on my list, but mechanical first.

I love it. makes it look kinda like the mkiv, as far as the sleekness goes, mby some pin striping would make it look better?
No.

I don't get it. The moldings are way too much of an integral part of the design for it to look finished w/o them. The doors look awesome shaved and polished, but the front and rear quarter panels just don't look right. Too plain and unfinished. It looks funny w/o the side markers, but then if you put them back on they look out of place. The front turns look they got stopped short and just end, and the rear has a ton relying on the moldings to pull it together.
Just....No.

well that is your opinion and if you seen pictures of my rear put together then you will see that it does flow and looks rather nice .... but to each his own...

a STOCK bodied supra looks horrible shaved..

if you have a kit or conversion (that doesn't look pieced together; however rare that is), then maybe it wont look so weird..

i just cant see it looking good..

it'd be like shaving and filling in the black piece of molding behind the window on the B pillar....

sure the quality can be there, but it just looks "off"

I want to see pictures, because I really like the look of the shaved doors. I dont think they flow well with the rear and front with the trim still there. Please, show pictures, I would love to see a finished one.

Thanks Chris.

Armyastro, I posted in your SF thread, like I said I'm interested in seeing more pictures of it put together, but to date I haven't seen one that I think is an improvement.

RazoE, seeing as none of the full kits actually flow well and look good all around on the Supra, to get something decent you have to pick from different kits, so no matter what they almost always look pieced together anyway. Sorry, but IMHO the Supra has some VERY tricky lines to work with and actually look good, I'd say a lip, tasteful sideskirts, perhaps a bit behind the wheels up to the bumper, and thats really about it. The less noticeable and more integrated, the better.

Jesse, Haven't seen one in person, but I haven't liked any I've seen in the pics, although I do admire the hard work and effort and craftsmanship of these projects, I just think it would be better left alone.

i agree chad, that's why im personally going with a front lip (already installed) kaminari sides (appear stock, just deeper and slightly lower), and im leaving my rear bumper stock...

as for a completely shaved mk3, here's a quick photoshop i did...

untitled1uo0.jpg

i even shaved the b-pillar trim and the dip on the lower portion of the door (which is also there for a reason). The car looks like a lump...

the trim not only provides protection, but it also reduces visual height. look at almost ANY modern vehicle, every single one has a character line, trim, or a dip to reduce visual height. Those that dont (like the scion TC) look like a big lump..

it's the reason fat people dont wear horizontal stripes, and why short people wear verticle stripes...

Exactly. Thanks for the PS man. That looks terrible! :p I think painting over the B-pillar trim made it even more hideous.

And I'll have to check out the Kaminari sides, I'd like to put some on mine when I get the extra cash, but I need to find ones I actually like! Of course, depending on the height of them something behind the back wheels may be necessary to blend it.

And go look at the new 07 Tahoe's and Suburbans. They have no character lines to speak of. And they look 3 stories tall.....

Lol, you should show this pic to anyone who thinks about shaving their moldings, especially on a stock bodied car. I'm sure they'd run away screaming! :biglaugh:
