shadow gray recoloring

My car is a 92 with shadow gray leather interior. The seats are very nice with no cracks or scratches but the drivers seat has a bit of the usual color fading of the left lower back rest.

So I have been thinking about recoloring that part of the seat. The problem is of course to find a perfect color match. The rest of the interior is mint so recoloring everything is out of the question.

Has anyone found a leather color which matches shadow gray?

No shadow gray (or grey) is not black.

It is a very dark gray.

Dude, your seats are black, and the interior panels are dark grey. That's what a shadow interior with leather is. Black seats with dark charcol door panels, interior plastics, and such. You will be hard pressed to find something that matches exactly. Most furniture and car interiors are done with leather from the same dye lot, so everything matches. There are always color differences in natural materials, including areas that fade at different rates.

That was what I was going to do but if someone already has found a perfect match it would be easier since we don't have that many upholstery shops where I live.

In all honesty, its easier to re-do the whole seat than try and match some faded colors.

Red paint is very hard to match(as per your example), and a good excuse for a respray.

Bottom line...you can get someone to mix you up some dye that will come close but it's like paint, you'll never get an exact color match. If the rest of the interior is in good shape (and not faded) I'd just dye the drivers seat as you suggested. However, if it's all starting to look a bit faded you could dye all the seats and then of course you'd have a perfect match.

You have to get and expert to mix you up the dye for a close match to original color. You'll never find anything off the shelf that will even come close.

A long time ago, I recall someone saying there was a company in Canada that would create custom matched aerosol cans of paint/dye for use on the interior. He said that he sent in a sample and they matched it for him. Don't know which compony, but search/ask around for this type of service.
