Honestly, I think the biggest difference is the lack of MKIV guys here...
now, not all MKIV guys are assholes, but many of the more verbal ones seem to be.
<insert rant about Mongoose's stereotype of MKIV guys as homophobic asshole uber right wing texans with money to burn on their trailer queens>

but yeah, much more calm atmosphere here, its groovey.

Lets not forget that the "homophobic asshole uber right wing texans with money to burn on their trailer queens" problem is not specific to the MkIVs. I've met a few MkIII and MkII owners that suffer from that same issue. This is more of a general population problem.

I like to see this site growing each week. Many will remember when I was out there rocking the SOGI boat (please do not confuse SOGI and Supras.com as they are not the same - even if some people refuse to believe that) trying to create some sort of a community rather than a bunch of <insert favorite term here>.

I may be in a minority here. I love Supras! ALL SUPRAS! Sure... the MkIV body does nothing for me and I love my MkIII - and will likely never part with it.

I forgot what my point was - must be my old age.

I joined the Supras.com mailing list in 1996. There are some good people out there in each generation.

I really like it here, it's my favourite forum to visit. I'm really happy with how things are going here, and hope they keep up this way :)

Every MKIV owner I've ever met has been really nice, I've heard of the asshole ones but never actually met one in real life.

I've said this before...

I don't think MkIV owners are asshats. Every one I have met personally has been a very nice person.

I think the asshats in question - especially on SF - are people who like to pretend that they own a MkIV. My opinion of these people is exceptionally low, they are of the opinion that they can point fingers loudly enough that everyone will think they are important. Seems awfully similar to the attitude that has spawned large cases of genocide many times in the past.

You don't wanna discourage people who are looking at MKIIIs from joining, if you had to put in a VIN then those people would go elsewhere.

And Nate, I know how you really feel about me :love:

I would LOVE to see a VIN# piece added to this community. Having a VIN# could get you access to special areas/features of this site that the typical member wouldn't. This is just the tip of the iceburg.

The vin need not be required for membership though so we would not be discouraging anyone from joining.

I think that is a good idea.

On a side note, I do think that this forum has a great set of members and a good sense of community, especially for the MkIII guys. Over at I-Supra, it was a good mix of the MkIII and MkIV guys, and we coexisted in peace with alot of shared information, but this is definitely THE PLACE to come for your MkIII needs.

It seems rare that we get a young, dumb kid that shoots off their mouth or straight out lies about modifications and kill stories. Even when a new kid is criticized a little, it's not too harsh, the flaming doesn't get out of hand, and they usually learn quickly that we are here to help, be friends and have fun.

This community has grown, and I think it says a lot about the A70. It's aging, it's heavy, it's reputation is for blowing head gaskets - but the Supra name is reputed for blowing away the competition, and no matter how fast the new rounded body 4-bangers are coming straight out of the factory, the truth is that our cars will always garner respect.
We have many advantages that people just don't think about
6-cylinders; in between economy and muscle, and really whipped butt on anything in it's class upon debut
Inline; simplifies intake and exhaust routing
Turbocharged; allows you to save gas if you want, or really put it down when you need.
Looks; Not many good looking cars were out during this time, especially for the price, and let's not forget the targa top. Convertible, T-Tops, sunroofs and moonroofs are in common car line-ups but only the most expensive cream-of-the-crop sports cars seem to have a targa [Porsche, Supra, Corvette, NSX].

I think we all know what we have, and we are happy. A new kid can come on here after buying a shell and he will be happy no matter what the condition of the car, so long as they are improving it.

..and with the sense of community here, people want to help the young kid because they have the same passion, and they want to see you keep that beautiful car of yours alive, on the road, turning heads and gaining the respect that our 14+ year old cars deserve.

Well said DM!

Mine's 20 this year and I can't think of anything I'd replace it with!

SM is a great resource and all you guys have been fantastic support and help along the way!

I posted this thread after reading a thread this morning where one of the guys was going to send some left over gaskets to help a fellow member get his car going again and was impressed!

this seems to be happening more and more as we mature as a community and put the petty differences aside.
