Selector shaft seal?

Can you use toyota high-temp silicone on the selector shaft seal on the top of the R154 tranny? It seams to be the main leak point on the transmission. Any advice to stop this leak would be great.

toyota sells a gasket for this.

it's 3-6 dollars.
