A friend and I just pulled my head for a head swap due to my spark plug hole being stripped, surprisingluy the head wasn't blown or starting to go for that matter. I've got a used head, new arp bolts, and new oem gaskets coming from another friend. Question is what should I use for sealent on the oem headgasket, its my first time doing this, so excuse me if my question sounds retarted.

Also the pin of my wastegate flapper arm thingy rusted away and when I was gonna remove it, the pin just snapped like a small twig. Once I remove the actuator, can I oil the mechanism and where can I get one of those pins as mine is gone, I ordered a nw wastegate from greddy.

Sorry that this has probably been asked before and I could've searched but internet is down at my house and all I have is my sidekick and it doesn't like SupraMania for some reason.

Thanks

it's coated with viton. (if it's oem toyota) don't bother with anything. Install dry, and theres a spot in the tsrm where you pack FIPG. Look it over and go for it!

I forgot what the pin looks like, but you should be able to grab one from a parts store.

If not, ask around to some of the vendors, especially the ones that build/rebuild turbos...

You could try to de-bur any moving parts that slide along one another. Other than that, not so much...

Stock Graphite gasket uses no sealant. install dry.

Though you must put either Toyota FIPG or some type of RTV on the 2 spots where the front timing cover meets the block on the headgasket surface. If you do not you will loose approx a half quart of oil from that spot(s) per day driving around.

what if you get the timing cover machined? do you still have to use RTV?

Its not a matter of the height dffrence its a matter of 3 pieces of metal put together with nothing to seal them.

Theres a gasket that goes around the back of the timing cover but at the top you need to use the FIPG.
