I was praying that he would wait until next year to retire so I that I would have a chance to go to the Inay race next and see hime drive in person. I hope he goes out in style with an 8th Championship this year. After today's race there is a good chance he will!! He is the greatest driver period!! Hands down!! No questions asked!! The Micheal Jordan of racing!!

I wonder if you would still be able to get away with saying that if Ayrton Senna hadnt died. But, he is a great driver in his own right now matter who you compare him too. Ya know the guy will stay around racing, just not behind the wheel.

When ever I make a comment like that about Schumacher I always get the "What if Ayrton Senna....." comment which is a very good argument because Senna was great driver. As a matter of fact Ayrton Senna is the only argument I will even listen to when it comes to comparing Schumacher to another driver!! I think if Senna hadn't died Schmacher would have been a even better driver because schumacher wanted to race against him just like Alonso wants to keep racing Schumacher. If the Schumacher and Senna could have kept racing each other we as F1 fans would have been treated to some many more spectacular races!! The rumors are already going that Schumacher may stay to test next years car and there may be a possilitly that he will run in the 24 hours of Lemans!!

It's a shame, Micahel Schumacer built ferrari's team into the dynasty it now is, and from what I've heard on SPEED channel the ferrari team basically forced him out to retire, if thats truly what happened its a damn shame. His retirement kinda makes me not feel like watching F1 for now anyways, not many of the other drivers have the draw he did, he was just good and he didn't seem to brag, I do think he should have announced it at the season opener so fans could get thier last tour, if he was forced out though I'm sure thats why he didn't.

The more and more I think about it the more convinced I a that feerari forced Schumacher out. It is just a wierd time to say that he is going to retire. If you have announced it at the begining of the season I would have accepted it as the real thing, but for him to announce it after closing the gap in the championship to 2 points and driving so well this season it just doesn't make sense.

Kubica has the talent to be great , but there will never be anothor Schumacher because no one else has the balls or the do whatever takes attitude anymore!!

Yep, living to spend the money is important.

I've often thought that many drivers suddenly retire after a life event. (Like looking at the door to visit the grim reaper for example.)

Others just plan it out.

Germans as a rule tend to plan things out to the ninth degree, so it's likely he had a goal, reached it, and now is going to move on and enjoy the spoils of his work.

Just a theory.

Sorry to see him retire, but it will make the races more fun with him not just leading all the time.

Ferrari is definitely not my favorite team and MS is probably on the bottom of my list for favorite drivers, but it is sad to see him go. I did get the privilage of seeing him race in person at the USGP in 2004.

In my opinion it's good that he has chosen to retire when he's on the top rather than keep racing and racing and hopping from team to team like so many professional athletes do.

Why do you say that, Caplax40?

And I completely agree that Kubica is going to great, I see a copy of Alonso in him. Going to be interesting what McLaren does with Alonso and what changes they will make to the car and what Ferrari does with the Massa/Kimi combo. (Did I say that...don't tell anybody I said that.:icon_bigg )
