The SCE copper gasket is bare metal correct? If so, I can see why they would want you to use a spray sealer. The sprays are only a problem is the MHG is coated with vitron.

Anyone else running one of these? I just got mine on, finally. Drove the car approx. 20mi so far, on stock boost. No problems yet, but will be cranking it up to 12psi in another week or two. Anyone have comments of wisdom, or what to expect? Just as an fyi, I also had the head o-ringed, in an s-pattern between pairs of cylinders.[/QUOTE

I tryed 3 of them and they didnt seal worth of shit. i had problems with the dowel pin holes lining up and the cylinder holes to. after that i just went out and got a hks.

did you do a test fit first? the dowel holes on the copper gasket were a bit small giving me some issues. but, a light tap with a rubber mallet cured it.

ah, didn't read that far into that thread. copper is a metal, therefore I thought they were talking about copper.

I've driven over 200 miles so far, no leaks. Have it at stock boost (6.8psi) and it doesn't like it. I can feel that theres plenty more power to be made. my cheesy mbc isn't reliable and overboosts when it wants to. I put it on and it loves over 8 psi. Like the mbc, my aftermarket boost gauge took a poop.

I come from a land down under
Monki: <fingers crossed> that the Copper doesn't split at the dowels (it should be soft enough to stretch when the dowels get hot and expand)

This sometimes happens with normal MHG's.

It shouldn't split, the copper is soft enough to move around. It now become that the car is having drivability issues due to fraying wiring harness and unknown condition of the sensors operating properly. That and annoying amounts of wheel hop.

My friend ran a copper head gasket on his high compression SC camaro and had no issues ... The are pretty much bullet proof in high boost apps ...

Did your friends camaro have a cast iron block and aluminum heads?

(Hint: Copper HG's on street motors with mixed metallurgy is a really bad idea...)
