Hey guys,
The title says it all. I ditched my nissan s13 drift machine for a bigger boy toy. She's still a definite work in progress but I feel I have enough done to merit a build thread :icon_razz I hope to have it ready to get half of this season in. Fingers crossed.
I picked up the car bone stock about a year ago. Then bought a house, got married, and all other sorts of things that take the money away from the track car. But things should be moving forward now! Anyhoo. There's not much else to say, so on with the pics ans building/tearing down.
I picked this thing up (1995 auto) only 12 hours after selling my s13. I wanted a white one and BAM, there was one for sale in my price range not 20 miles from me! So I grabbed it...
I figured I had a little extra money from selling the nissan that I could go bring home a 1jz.....with the wife's(fiance at the time) permission of course...
the old and tired 1j from a jzx90
tore it down a bit to see what I was working with
was lucky enough to have a friend that picked up an r154 for his jza70 project....that ended up not working out. So he sold me the trans.
Since the car was running I figured I would get the suspension dialed in and get the ride height set with the wheel set up I wanted to run.
Suspension mods:
-Stance GR+ coilovers
-Battle version toe rods
-Battle version traction links
- **not pictured - wasn't able to get the camber specs out of the camber links so I got new oem lower control arms and cut 15mm out if them, then welded them back ** had to rotate the sway bar links to the other side but problem solved!
Wheels/tires/alignment:
Varrestoen 2.2.2's in 18x9.5 +12 front with 235/40/18 Falken RT615K's
Varrestoen 2.2.2's in 19x10.5 +15 rear with 275/30/19 Falken FK452's
Front: -.01 toe, -2.7 camber, +6 caster
Rear: +.02 toe, -.8 camber
**note - this is not final ride height and alignment specs above**
Got the block up to work and took it down, inspected, cleaned, etc. Everything looked great. No bearings or internals of the like needed. Gave the block a freshening up along with ARP rod bolts and ARP head studs.
sent the head off to the machine shop to be cleaned, pressure tested, and resurfaced. It checked out great.
I got the motor back together but then had a change of heart. I decided to go with BC springs, retainers, and 264 cams. They will be going in within the next few weeks. This is the motor before taking the cams out....again....
Now, with the car itself. I haven't made too much progress but I've been dropping as much weight as possible!! I've gotten almost 800 lbs off the car to date. I'm hoping to have it at the 3000lb mark with motor and roll cage. It might happen...
Ditched everything inside the doors (almost 60lbs per door dropped!!!)
made lexan windows and sunroof (not the most amazing things ever but c'mon....I don't make lexan stuff for a living! :icon_bigg)
since these pics I have finished removing the sound deadening, bead lined the floor boards, and removed all the unnecessary tabs/mounts from the dash bar and dash itself.
Got all chassis wiring and shenanigans out.
There is way too much to list as far as plans/parts going on soon. Reverse swing Wilwood brake and clutch pedal set with hydro hand brake, gt35r .78ar twin scroll set up,AEM V2 standalone, rewiring the entire car, etc etc etc. I'll keep this up to date. So much to do....
