Sawblade Tire Refitting

Hi all,

Need a little help with some new tires on my Supra. I am running hand polished sawblades which I have invested over 40 hours of finger print removing hours on. Since they turned out so well I plan on keeping them at least thrrough the next set of new tires.

My question is would I be better served to replace the stock 225/50/16's with a set of 245/45/16's ? This size seems to nearly match the overall diameter of the stock setup well, within +2.3mm on sidewall and radius and -4.5 on diameter.

Would the 245/45/16 give me any advantage over the stock size ? Any and all help is appreciated..

I like the 225s. It's the size the wheel was designed for and personally I love how the tire sidewall is flush with the wheel and not bulging out like most tires seem to be. I'm not even sure if 245s would increase your contact patch unless it were lower pressure. Someone who knows more about this stuff might be able to tell you for sure =)

fwiw, i believe the max for the sawblades is 255, but i'd stick with 225s until i got a new set of wheels.

Thanks for the replies thus far.
I did find a nice link for those considering tire changes which I will post below. I am rather certain the 245's will fit, I am simply wondering if I will in fact gain a larger footprint also. Keep in mind there are not many 245/45/16's to choose from, so the move to that size would need to be a positive one in terms of footprint.

Take a look at this link and tell me what you think ^^http://http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

My 225's are kinda bulgy :icon_razz
I'm running 225/50, but It'd be cool IMO to go 235/50 in the back. I know the diameter is all wrong then, but the tire seems to compensate the too much room left between the fender, even when lowered.

Might as well run 235's in the front too...

I'm also curious...I have to get new tires within the month. sooner if rains hit. i'm down to the wear stripes and I dont wanna die.

Is it possible/good idea to go lower profile than 225/50/16? I dont know if that's a good idea or not for looks or ride quality. stock ride height...

265s? damn :D

whatever you go with, i'd personally match the front and rear sets. makes it a helluva lot easier when rotating tires.
