So a few weeks back when my friend aptly named my car the 5.7 liter eater I was proud, but amazed, that my car took a Pontiac Trans AM(It had a WS6 package hood, but was devoid from the WS6 badge on the back, as far as I could tell.)
The race was a simple Wangan style race that you se in all the movies, was relatively late and I just wanted to drive, I was frustrated and rather depressed, so I decided to just drive, little did I know, it would turn into this!
To enter the 680 south freeway by my house, there is a stop light, on the left side of a 2 lane road(each side mind you) and then its a turn left into the on ramp(across a huge intersection) and then proceed to take a banked right turn, where 3 lanes merge to one at the very end. As a given, I gun it down that ramp ALL the time. Apparently, a Trans am heading northbound on the road wants to enter the freeway as well, but sees me gunning it down the onramp. I exit the on ramp at speeds around 80 mph, and i enter traffic(basically empty freeway at this time) and slow down to speed.
I see a the Trans am fly up behind me and shut off his lights and then turn them on(flip down and up) and proceeds to give me the 3 high beam salute. I wave him over; Oddly enough its an older man, with a stock car(no hill billy flow master nascar exhaust on a new car) I thumbs up him and he puts up 3 fingers. He honks once, twice(rather slowly), three times, I slam the gas(I was in 4th gear ever since I entered the highway, instant boost, and while i was scared at first when he had the jump, my car shot ahead untill around 95ish mph, where the gap went from a half of a car, to almost nothing, I kept my nose ahead all the way to speedo indicated 105 110 mph, where he shut down.
The funny thing, I had a NOSE on this car, at around 110mph, would he kept going, he would of destroyed me due to speedcut :rofl:
He gave me the thumbs up and exited, I wanted to go again, but it never happened...
Until recently...
I got my chance at the LS1 once again, In a GTslOw(note, 6 liter GTO's are a personal fetish of mine).
Twas an orange car, with a modified exhaust from all I could tell. I don't initiate races, never have, but this time, I kinda pushed the guy on. He looked maybe 30 or so,(the gentleman in the T/A was I would say 40.) Funny thing about this GTO race was there was a kid in the passenger seat! Lets show him what 20 year old Japanese cars can do.
We were on rather large street in my home town, just driving with traffic. There is a rather difficult highway entrance on this street to get into due to traffic, so I did my little shooting in front of cars to nab my spot, and after giving this orange GTO a few looks a coupe stoplights back(this is dusk mind you) i noticed him behind the car i jumped in front of. If you have ever driven a stock 1JZ car, the blow off valve makes noise no matter how you drive, so its hard to hide your aspiration ANYtime. But none the less, We enter the highway. The GTO shoots by(shoot = 75ish mph compared to my 65) once we entered traffic. So i decide to play a little, I shoot by him the same way, I passed on the passenger side and I saw the little kid get giddy(as would I at 6-7).
He shifts into 4th and i can hear the car get noticeably louder, and i hear the LS1 rip to life as he gets next to me. I downshift, and he jumps instantly, no honking or anything, So now its a chase game, My car really shines in 4th gear, its powerful, very powerful. I catch up and we go at it again, I honk 3 times and he gets a little jump again, Same deal with the T/A, I pull, until around 95, where he gains, but this time he doesn't give up first, I do. I had him all the way until 100, then i just found conditions unsafe, as we were approaching the 580 interchange(cloverleaf).
I count it as a win, i'm sure he did too, let it be mutual.
