ive heard of people jb welding it here on the forums before....

Please don't do that...fuel components are not something to gumby rig.

I have an FPD and I'm in town...PM me your address and I'll mail it to you in a couple days...for free.

it's quite common to remove the egr from the 7m. the japspec 7m's even came without them.

but let's not go that much offtopic ok ? ;)

seee jdubs response ;)

btw to add fuel to the fire. I wonder why if it was not needed toyota added the EGR to the 1jz, back in 1989 (the emissions "standards" did not increase that much in japan back then;) )???

Well I didn't think my post about the removal of the egr would get so much response :)

Almost every topic you can find with the search mentions how easy it is to remove the egr, and since there is a popular demand for block-off plates i'd figure that it's ok to remove the egr on the 7M. Not many topics go over the reasons not to do it (like the ones mentioned in this topic bij IJ and jdub) and I can hardly believe it's very common for 7M's to fail due to egr removal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be an ass but shouldn't many more people have problems witht the egr removed? I'm trying to learn something here ;)

btw I don't know much about 1j or 2j engines. All I know is my friends JDM 2JZ doesn't have an EGR ??

LOL...just because a product is offered for sale doesn't make it a good idea ;)

And, last I looked, a BHG was pretty common on the 7M. Pretty sure detonation will cause that too.

The JDM engine ECU is tuned for no EGR...USDM is tuned for it there. With an EGR, inert exhaust gas displaces air in the combustion mixture. Remove it, and additional air takes it's place with the same amount of fuel. Think about what happens to AFR when more air is added to the mixture ;)

Yeah ok got that. I figured BHG's were mostly common due to the bad stock HG's and once replaced by MHG's the problem went away for most the people? :)

Hmmm When I removed my egr (when i rebuilt the engine) I also installed a wideband kit with egt meter. Maybe that's why i never thought/worried about things as A/F ratio as i tuned it with the afpr + safc...

Ah well, I hope someone else will learn from this thread before blowing stuff up ;)

The main reason for a BHG on the 7M is a low factory torque spec. Upgrades (ARP hardware, MHG) make it much more resistant...go lean and there's not much that's gonna stop blowing the motor. No EGR on a USDM ECU makes this a much more likely event...on a stock HG at factory torque the HG will fail.

Fuel control (SAFC, etc) is a big help, but generally you will have to run rich to get the same effect as the EGR...the tune is the key. Removing the EGR will have an effect on gas mileage as a result.

Removing the EGR is effort with no gain. The EGR is disabled at 4000-4500 RPM...therefore, it will have no impact to top HP produced by the engine.
