It seems that very few people know how to rebuild a 7M; it guess they are finicky in that way. My car has a low-mile ORIGINAL 7MGTE with a metal head gasket and I've been beating on it at 400hp for 2 years.

By anychance did you plastigauge the main or rod bearings? Those ACL's that were installed, more then likely not machined to fit correctly. Having excessive clearance would cause you spinning a bearing. Plastigauge is your friend in any engine rebuild (especailly with a 7M)

OEM bearings and ARP rod bolts are deffinatly the way to go to help prevent spinning a rod bearing. ;)

Dont just give up on the 7M just yet, it will take you MUCH more time and money to find a JZ and install. A correctly built 7M will take a lot of abuse (within reason) and can make great power at the same time.

What did the headgasket look like when it came off after the first engine failure?

Anyway, it sounds like a break-in proceedure error that caused that engine's death. Unless you want to walk through what you did to break in the engine.

Im no expert on the 7m in fact im still reading and learning, but I can say you running a synthetic to break in the motor is a no-no for trying to properly seat your piston rings.

And while that might not have anything to do with your newly aquired hole-in-block, Maybe you should have changed your oil & filter after a warm up cycle to clean out all loose debris in the motor before driving it. Then *I believe* you change the oil and filter at 50, 250, 500, 1000, then finally at 1500. Then swap to your synthetics.

BTW im in GA and 15w40 is way to thick for our climate. Hell in my 20v 4age I run Redline Oil, 5w30 most of the year and 10w30 in the summer, and this motor sees redline at almost 9k every other day, no issues yet.

thanks..that is some great info...its pretty hard to find a mechanic that knows a 7m or any other type of supra motor..thats why i took the chance and did most of the work my self so if it blew it would be on me not on a shop. live and learn. btw where in ga do you live cuz i saw a while back a 1st gen mr2 with a 20v...its a small world.lol..
