two things...

1) you WONT find 89+ folding mirrors because there is no such things...the jdm/euro folding mirrors were 87-88 style.

2) its simply an 89 steering wheel you are looking for...i have yet to see a 90 without an airbag even though i believe it was just an option that year....and the 91-92 had them standard..... theres on in the FS section i believe somewhere i saw it...actually i think evil twins had one...

other then that get to work and make that bitch look sexy again ;)

well that's good to know! thanks jay! :) i thought they were 89+. my mistake. i'll go edit my first post. :)

i saw the one that eviltwins has. i just need the cash to buy one, first. :) i want to get the exterior complete first. but if i come across an '89 wheel offer that i cant refuse, i'll probably jump on it.

haha, the only time it looks REMOTELY sexy, is when it's pitch dark out, and i have the lights on. ;)

heh, yeah, there's a bit of rust. the new panels will take care of MOST of it. the underbody is wicked clean. the spare tire well is bad, but that's pretty much IT for rust under the car, which i'll surely fix this summer. :)

when i get a car, i become attached to it. i became attached to this rustbucket, and cant bring myself to part with it. someone else would probably send it to the crusher, thinking it's too much work. but with some new metal, a little bit of time, and a bit of cash, it should be like new! (only hotter;))

regardless, i only paid $820 for it...

I'm new to the car restoration field. I just recently bought an 87 turbo, and it's got some rust problems, and I was wondering, where did you get replacement parts, like fenders, doors, etc? Junkyard, or specially order? Plus, the under carriage is a rusty mess....what can I do? Should I just take the car to a body shop?

i bought all the parts second hand off of a very, very clean car. (thanks TONY!)

for the underside, use P.O.R. 15. it's the best! your best bet is to find someone parting out a car with little to no rust, and offer them fair prices for the parts. :)

Great thread Shaeff. Love all the pictures and how you've answered everyones questions instead of abandoning the thread once youve posted. Are you going back with black body and black trim?
Your interior looks sweet. I've got a new dash for mine, but I've been to chicken shit to tackle it.(sorry for the profanity) My new dash is grey, I'm going to have it dyed blue to match my interior if I ever get it installed. ON a scale of 1-10 how hard was the dash removal and install? Good luck and keep the pictures coming. Everyone LOVES pictures.

suprahero- black body, black trim. :) yessir! haha, i've had my dash in and out so many times that i can pull it and replace it in less than an hour and a half. :p speaking of which, my new, (second hand) heater core is leaking. this is core #3. i suppose this time i'll opt to buy a new one. :(

heh, first time dash-pull? 9 because there's so many screws and if you dont put the dash harness back in correctly, it wont reach some of the switches and stuff. after the first- 3

well, after much time trying to find a bodyshop that'd take the job. (i offered to every one of them to disassemble, and reassemble the front end with the new parts) and i got turned down every time, except the last.

i got quoted $3400 for a full paintjob in black. not TOO bad. there really is a lot of work that needs to be done. this from an autobody shop that puts out decent work. but, oh, it gets better. ;)

then i got the inside word, a very low key word, so i'm not even posting where i got it, or where it is, that a guy very close to me does amazing paintjobs, and the prices are un-beatable.

i've seen the work before, but never knew who did it. these are the types of paintjobs where you see a billion mirror images of yourself in them, and every one looks as glorious as the next.

so, i stopped by, told him i'd keep it mad low-key (as it's illegal for him to do them where he's doing them) and he agreed to do it for $3000.

he had a '70 chevelle in there that he just got done wetsanding, and it looked absolutely AMAZING. i cant believe that within the next few months, that my car will be that shiny! (but black, not white) :) i'm incredibly excited! (the only part of my car that shines now, is the glass :p)

anyway, so that about covers the update for now. i'll post pics when i get the old panels off, and also when i get the new ones all mounted. :)

dude, wish ya lived in the DFW area so i could hook u up with my body guy, he gives great prices to anyone i know, he just got done fixing a 97 N/A supra for a girl i know (slight front end damage, needed a lil frame pulling) and did a full paint job fixing everything on the car and even replacing most of the body sealer everywhere else for 1500 bucks, and that was including parts and paint
